We hiked Mt Philo for the first time all summer. I didn't realize that the trail on the way up had been redone with large rock stairs and not the regular dirt trail. This made it not ideal for a Mini Dachshund as it's not good for their backs and my mini is 8.5 and this was more of a work out than we were expecting for her. Please take note that the road might be a better choice for any pup big or small with arthritis or any mobility issue.

Now, a break from your regular programming... because I think it's important to share. Although Dachshunds are classified by weight (mini is 11 lbs or under at 12 months of age), it's possible for a Dachshund to structurally be a mini but be over weight enough that they fall into a "tweenie" or standard category. This chart is what I use to make sure Summit and Gretel stay within a healthy weight range. Over a 5? I cut back a little on the food. Dropping below 4? They get some extra snackies :)

I got one of these for Sylvie a few years ago, and it fits really well (and has a bunch of adjustments), has an amazing battery and can be whatever color you want. If you are looking for a light up vest this is a good one.
