This is such an interesting story about the AKC, I had to share it. This is only one of the many problems over the years I’ve pointed out. But after dealing with an animal abuser and watching how that was handled, this doesn’t surprise me. Know where and who you’re giving your money too. Bottom line is it’s about the money. Not the dogs, not you or me. The problem is there are some great people that get pulled in unknowingly.

They don’t sell dogs in the parking lot of Dollar General like a drug dealer!! They don’t “sell” health guarantees, your puppy should come with one. Do your work and know who you’re buying your future family member from! I have never understood why people want to do these challenges to their dogs. Especially anything having to do with food. The bond you share with them is special. They trust you. All you’re doing with these challenges is showing them they in fact can not trust you or the food you provide them. Not only can these things make them sick but can also cause them to refuse to eat what you serve. Think about it like this: If I had you over for a five course dinner and at #3 served you meat with dirt mixed in. Would you ever trust me to make your food? Would you eat #4 or #5? Stop treating them like crap for IG or TikTok clicks!!

This made me angry to read. They need to leave the breed alone. There are hundreds of thousands of our dogs with zero health issues. If we are going by health issues alone, I can think of at least 20 breeds off the top of my head that should be banned first. I am grateful this is not here, but remember what happens in other places can happen here. Look at the pit bull ban in the UK.

Fergus Day 4:
Well a lot has happened in 24 hours. Fergus slept with daddy all night long which is his new thing he does. I call it love, Ed says it’s “trauma bonding”. Ed took him for his exam & morning of surgery so they have had quite a lot of time alone together.
But the swelling is virtually gone. Like he is almost back to normal. The nose has stopped bleeding, but now the removed eye is leaking fluid at the stitch in the front corner.
Ferg is becoming more self aware as today he had his ball on his cot. He stood up and dropped the ball on the ground, got down off the cot and picked the ball back up. I don’t know if he did this for depth perception or to stabilize himself getting down. He finally ate dinner, to the tune of 2.5 servings. With the meds and antibiotics, I don’t care if he over eats a little but my theory was confirmed that it was too painful to eat with the swelling.
He is still peacocking for Rowena. A fight broke out and I had to step in. Most of the time it sounds much worse than it actually is. They are hounds after all. Their bark is very loud compared to other breeds their size. He loves his ladies. Ruby feels rejected and is being super clingy to me. But we will march on. Daddy’s home today so he can take care of all this cause momma needs a break and a drink🤣

Fergus Day 3: SWELLING, Blood and Sparkle Farts!
We woke up to swelling of his entire head that changed his breed to a Bull Terrier aka Spuds Mackenzie! I kept finding blood like misted everywhere. We couldn’t figure out where it was coming from or who was hurt. It was him. He had a bloody nose due to the swelling & the surgery. There are a lot of blood vessels in their face, like humans, that are connected. Think sinus and how allergies affect us. Then add traumatic surgery. Well I cleaned everything with hydrogen peroxide and bleach. We called the vet and Dr. Brown (Dr. Gilyards Daughter) explained it’s normal. We figured it was and weren’t panicking. Shortly after his meds it stopped.

Then the rest of our day got exciting!
Fergus in the matter of an hour and a half was a different dog strutting around peacocking for the girls. Now this normally only happens when they are in heat & it’s breeding season. Well my girls are spayed ladies and wanted nothing to do with his advances. Rowena was the main target of his love display.

Breeding sidebar note: When dogs go into heat, it is a 4 week process. Week 1) behavior changes. Week 2) Menstruation. Week 3) MAGIC TIME!! All the time, everywhere, 24 hours a day. He will stop eating to focus his attention on the girl. There is howling & crying. They treat their humans like they don’t exist. Week 4) the wind down & she starts rejecting his advances in a very firm and obvious way. Hopefully by this point we have babies coming!

So back to this long story, Fergus started his peacock dance and behavior showing her he was ready to go make some babies! Laser focused on her and his nose up her rear-end non-stop. Sparkle Farts wasn’t having it and kept rejecting him with fake displays of aggression and pokes to the head. So I spent the day trying to get them both to stop. Because with the girls they can become quite violent when No Means No.

I was happy to see him feeling better but as the day winded down you could see the pain & discomfort come creeping back. He didn’t eat dinner. Even with me trying to feed him by hand. It was okay because he got some jerky for night treat time. He opted to sleep with his daddy. He hardly moved the whole night. So we are on the long road of recovery. So we will keep marching forward.

Day 2 for Fergus:
Everything went pretty smooth. He laid around a lot with Ruby directly in tow. Swelling went up a bit as expected. He is eating anything not nailed down but can’t open his mouth completely so this is interfering with him and his real love, his precious, his ball. Sleeping with the doughnut was next to impossible for him. He couldn’t find a position. Then it became impossible by 1:30am. So we removed it and everyone slept without moving.
Ps If you look through Ed’s beard, you will see a Rowena. She was laying on Fergus trying to help him relax with the “puppy pile” technique.

Hi everyone! We made it home! I look like Edward Scissorhands got a hold of me from Fergus thrashing his head for 35 minutes with the La-Lamp Shade on. I can confirm plastic cuts hurt as bad as paper cuts. We slipped into something a little more comfortable and compatible. We chose the doughnut because of his doughnut hole🤣 He is full strength and not drugged or hungover. Like nothing even happened. Dr Gilyard did a beautiful job on the stitches. It’s very swollen and round. But he seems okay with it so far. Doc & his team are absolutely an amazing asset to our kennel & family.❤️ Ruby almost got the second crack-a-lacking of her life because she wants to lick, clean & sooth him. This is her man & we get it but geeze girl, give him a break! Rowena smell scanned him like an MRI machine from nose to tip. Thank you all for your support during this time. I appreciate it a lot. I will continue to update as we progress.❤️🐾❤️

Hi everyone, if you have a few seconds to say a little prayer 🙏 for Fergus this morning. He is having his eye removed due to an infection/injury. We have tried everything to save it but Veterinary Clinic - Dr. Pete Gilyard & his team feel this is the best option at this point. We will have pathology done on it to find out what exactly happened. So this morning I’m dedicating this song to him. We were singing it yesterday, probably more for me than him. For all he has gone through in his short 5.5 years I know he is a fighter & still the best dog I have.🥲❤️🐾🙏
