I am happy for the family I have and the help being provided during this move. Today is the big day and we’re heading down to the Kissimmee area!

Sprout! *Gasp* and I’m…touching her!? Sprout is an insecure girl leading to some reactivity and was rescued by her family back at the tail end of last year. The family knew about the 3-3-3 rule and was privy to some classes I had with their friend and former roommate. They had a decent idea of where to start with Sprout, and they have their dog Bean which is a good role model.

At the end of June, Sprout’s handler reached out as the reactivity had built past their ability. During the evaluation, it was clearly evident Sprout was a dog capable and willing to use her teeth, luckily she had not yet, to the best of our knowledge; she came with no history. I immediately taught them how to muzzle train IN MY EVALUATION. I say it over and over again: evaluations are NOT meet and greets. You WILL learn. You WILL have homework. You will make progress IF you follow our instructions.

After an interval between the evaluation and the first session to desensitize Sprout to the muzzle. We had our first full session, desensitizing Sprout to me while using the muzzle. She managed the entire session, near the end we had one small tantrum of her rubbing her face to attempt to take the muzzle off. The handler knew how to handle these situations and calmed Sprout back down.

Here we are yesterday, after spending a little over an hour at a local park. The first 15-20 minutes we spent with the muzzle on and walked around and did some drills. I gave the family some more engagement drills to really hammer down Sprout’s ability to give eye contact. We had the park to ourselves and we had clear lines of sight to where people would come from, I decided based on Sprout’s body language to go without the muzzle for the second half of the class.

I had walked her demonstrating some things while she had the muzzle on, she took my instruction, walked away from her handlers, and even acknowledged corrections and fell back in line during her muzzle tantrum. This is why I knew we could have some extra freedom without the muzzle. I had started with scratching along the back and made my way up her body to the head. To her, I am a new hand, so my pets were deliberate, short and sweet.

I am excited to see the future possibilities for this sweet girl and can’t wait to share more!

At Red Bug Lake Park, Sandhill Cranes are seen walking along the parking lot. These birds always make me smile and remind me of the solo Sandhill Crane we befriended back in our college days. 🥹

The muzzle is a tool just like any other and it’s all about understanding our dog, their needs, and ability. Walking past a dog, much less a barking & lunging one, is something she could not do a month ago. This is TREMENDOUS for her and I cannot wait to continue her growth.

Oliver here:

We are moving! We are staying in the Central Florida area but heading SouthWest a bit to Davenport/Kissimmee. We have had a great 5 years servicing the Winter Park and adjacent areas, but there are a lot of families that need us a bit further south than we could service now. Those of you finishing up your packages, no worries, we will be finishing those classes out. For those wanting to pursue advanced lessons, we will still offer classes in the current areas until 2025. ❤️

We are excited to help out the families in the Kissimmee, Windermere, Celebration, Haines City, Davenport, Saint Cloud, Poinciana and Hunters Creek areas. Remember, I speak German, Spanish and English, I am beginning to learn sign language in October, and we offer everything from a dedicated puppy course, to service animal training, behavior modification, and everything in between. I pride myself on meeting my clients where they are, providing around the clock care, and ensuring progress is made at a steady rate. Honesty, leadership, trust, and communication are the name of the game. We have these in spades! ♠️

I got a text nobody wants to receive. A family member passed away in the night. Motley always knows what to do…

Paco learning “aqui”

Paco had a bit of a setback after a large routine change: a new person moved into the home, a new dog was there for a month, and then I was down and out for nearly 3 weeks with Covid. Paco’s bilingual, so we are using “Aquí” for his heel/tight walk. We sent the handler home with some engagement work to help bring Paco’s focus back.

Finally, after over 2 weeks of Covid, I am back at it! Voice sounds funky to me still, what do you think?

Impulse control! We say it all the time, it’s the little things. It’s your habits that create a well behaved dog. Motley here is going on 9 years old and almost jumped out on his own. You hear me and my “buzzer” sound, and I reset the sit. Permission is the name of the game people!!!

Would you believe me if I told you a few months ago these two were literally carried into our first class together? Mila and Messi were insecure, shelter seeking, anxiety ridden pups but now here they are at the airport happy and engaged. Oh, the places they’ll go…
