Hi Stonewall Cottage friends,
This is such a hard message for me to post. We’ve had a terrible week here. We bred Hettie on August 8 and within a couple of weeks she started to avoid food. We guessed that she was just having morning sickness and just attempted to feed all the home cooked goodies she usually eats during pregnancy but she refused all of them as well and then began to withdraw. We took her to the Vet on Saturday and they checked her vitals, labs and did an ultrasound. I left with instructions to monitor her temp closely, which i did about every 4-6 hours throughout the weekend. By Monday night she spiked a high temp. I conferred with our vet who recommended that I keep the appt that I had for 7:30 in the morning. By 12:00 her temp was too high for my comfort and Evans and I drove her to BEVS. She was assesed and diagnosed with Pyometra, which is an often deadly infection of the uterus. The only treatment is a hysterectomy, which was done early Tuesday AM. She was septic and critical.
Good news, she has survived and we brought her home tonight. She’s still not eating, and her blood levels aren’t normal but we’re working on those 2 things and hoping having her home will help her get well.
To all of you who were hoping for a puppy, we’re so sorry to disappoint you. We are devastated that there won’t be puppies in the foreseeable future.
Hettie’s Aunt Clara had a litter 3 weeks ago, so they are from the same line as Hettie came from. Please reach out to my very close friend Sue Fitzgerald if you are interested in one of her pups. You will love them!
