🌊 A Little Hydrotherapy Rant (For the Good of the Dogs!) 🐾

…because sometimes the truth needs saying.

I saw a post today saying, “Dogs need more than hydrotherapy.”

And honestly… that’s true — but only if all the dog is doing is walking on a treadmill with no hands-on support, no tailored plan, and no real therapeutic intention behind the session.

Here’s the thing most owners don’t know.....

➡️ Hydrotherapy isn’t just “walking in water.”

When it’s done by someone with specialized training, hydro becomes a full rehab session:

• Guided gait work
• Targeted strengthening
• Balance, proprioception, posture work
• Manual support
• Pain assessment
• Real-time adjustments based on how the dog is moving
• Sometimes even two people inside the treadmill working with the dog

➡️ Every dog moves differently. Every injury heals differently.

So a one-size-fits-all, set-the-timer-and-press-play session?

That’s not hydrotherapy — that’s a dog walking in a glass box 🙄🤣

➡️ TRUE hydrotherapy is active, intentional, and tailored.

That’s why it creates faster, safer, and more meaningful progress.

I LOVE that more vets are recommending hydro.

But as owners, you deserve to know the difference between:

“Hydrotherapy was recommended”

and

“Your dog receives specialized, hands-on hydrotherapy that actually supports recovery.”

If your pup ever needs hydrotherapy — anywhere, with anyone — just make sure your provider is trained, hands-on, and focused on your dog’s specific movement patterns, pain levels, and recovery goals.

Your dog’s body is unique.

Their therapy should be too. 💙🐶

When you invest in rehab for your —especially hydrotherapy—your dog deserves more than a treadmill and a timer.

They deserve hands-on, eyes-on, engaged therapy.

Why?

Because dogs recovering from spinal injuries often need help walking.

You’re not just asking them to “walk on a treadmill”…

You’re asking their body to re-learn movement, rebuild neural pathways, and feel safe doing it.

If they’re left to “just walk,” without guidance, support, or real-time adjustments, you’re not doing rehab—you’re doing repetition. And repetition without intention can slow progress or reinforce the wrong patterns.

Choose therapy where your dog’s body is felt, assessed, supported, and guided.

They deserve an expert who’s in the session, not beside the session.
