Leaps of Faith Homestead & Rabbitry

Leaps of Faith Homestead & Rabbitry Thank you for taking the time to visit our business page! We are a small family run homestead and hobby rabbitry based in Zebulon, NC.

We presently breed and raise pedigreed Rex rabbits with more of a focus on fun colors that aren't all showable. Type is important to us and we will be working to improve upon our base. Rex, not to be confused with Mini Rex, is an amazing dual purpose breed known for their beautiful pelts and docile personalities. Our Rabbitry was started in 2021 with Faith, our Harlequinized Castor doe. She was no

t the only thing that inspired our name though. The last year has been one full of uncertainty that has required a lot of faith for many of us. Faith is such a simple word that can be much more challenging to execute. We encourage everyone to remember that if you're feeling anxious because the future isn't clear, that's what faith is for. Faith is strength in the middle of the unknown. Faith is hope in a dark place. Faith will see you through it. We have taken many leaps of faith recently and we are so very excited to see what the future holds for our family and our home.

Sweet babies are 8 days old and we saw peepers tonight! The largest of the 2 has started to open its eyes and is beginning to push further and further out of the nest every day. Spunky little one!

Happy Thanksgiving! Crazy busy week with the holiday and as I'm wrapping up this semester of school... just 2 weeks left! Adele did finally kindle. She made us wait until day 33, but had 2 healthy kits! She's a wonderful momma so far. I'm hoping this one is a buck and has at least some type I can work with for pairing with Sien.

End of day 31 and no kits yet. She spent a good hour tonight in her nesting box and I thought for sure the time had come, but nope she was just in there rearranging and perfecting it...again. No fur pulling yet. Hopeful for tomorrow. Right now she's just snoozing away in her absolute favorite spot.

No worthy update on Adele here on Day 29. She does keep going in the nesting box trying to perfect it, but no fur pulling yet.

We did have some excitement last night at the homestead though! We've added Cayuga ducks! Starting very small to get the lay of the land and to see how well they fit in. Aren't they just the cutest things ever?!

Day 28...MUCH quieter around here. Adele became SO frantic yesterday about 2 hours after getting her nesting box. She was digging at everything and running all around like a mad woman before she figured out the nesting box was the perfect spot. She has made a glorious mess, a beautiful hole for her babies, and has started eating less. So we're approaching D day (at least I'm hopeful we are).Today, she's just chilling which I appreciate because her frantic behavior yesterday had this bun mom a nervous wreck. Might have to rethink kindling indoors next time πŸ˜„

Final thing on the to-do list was a nail trimming which she did absolutely wonderful through last night. I was nervous because she's been grumpy a great deal the past couple of weeks, but I was able to love on and snuggle her throughout the process which I know we both have missed so much. Pets just aren't as cathartic as snuggles! Until the next update... πŸ‡

We're on a baby countdown! Adele has been very restless the past few days and showing signs she is ready to begin nesting so we put the nesting box in today! She's been in and out of it, digging around and making it the way she wants it since. We put in a bunny cam to keep a close eye on her... she discovered it very quickly as you can see. So exciting to watch! Praying this goes smoothly ❀

Another long hiatus! Nursing school is really putting me through it 😩 Needless to say, not much has been going on outside of that but I'm happy to announce that Adele has been exposed to Samuel and we will hopefully be expecting our rabbitry's first litter around 11/20. Both nervous and excited!

I know it's been far too long since the last update, nursing school has me B U S Y! Anyhow, I'm so stoked to be adding this pedigreed Tri, Adele, to our Rabbitry in August! Eeeee! Hoping that between her and Samuel (our tri buck), we can get a good foundation going for my tri.

I hope everyone is being mindful of their biosecurity and watching this closely!

I hope everyone is being mindful of their biosecurity and watching this closely!

We got an updated photo from the breeder of our tri buck that we'll be welcoming home in a few weeks! Hanging out with his sister, so precious! πŸ’™πŸ° Hoping to have time this week to TRY and get photos of Faith, Gracie, and Gideon. I predict that Faith will be my biggest challenge πŸ˜‚

Great video on posing! We're working on it over here, but these guys aren't having it! Faith is the funniest of them because she is so active and curious...we can't get her to sit still for anything πŸ˜‚ The others act like we're bothering them and slip out of the pose, much like how we as humans prefer to slip into a slouch rather than sit with our backs straight. Silly buns, but we will get there! 🐰

In this short video, Tex Thomas will share some techniques on how to pose a rabbit. Tune into additional Rabbit Tips & Tricks Videos, short 2-5 minute video...

Eeeee! This tri buck will be joining us in early June! So very excited to have found a pedigreed tri to add to our Rabbitry. We just love the coloring, but will be working on type once we find him a good pairing when he's of age.

SO very important to keep up to date on what's going on with RHDV2 and the spread here in the US.

Attached is the interactive North American map showing the spread of the RHDV2 virus. It shows:

1. Location/date of event

2. Click on the pin and it will show you the county. Click on the county and it will show you all of the current information from the OIE.

3. Each pin color corresponds to the species affected.

We will update this map as each new OIE posts.

Thanks goes to Cecilia Harris (The Bun Hatter), Iris and JL for their input and continuing expertise.

I felt that this kind of data is going to be integral in tracking the spread of the disease. We will post an updated map every time the OIE is updated.
