CMRC Winter Informal Trials Return!

The Winter Informal Trial Season is soon upon us! The December CMRC Informal Trial will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2024, pending weather. Generally speaking if the forecast temperature is below zero at 8 am we will cancel/postpone the event.

The trial is open to members and non-members alike. Stakes are offered in the Open, Qualifying, Hunter, Derby, Junior Hunter and Puppy. Entry fees $15. Frozen ducks and pigeons will be used in all stakes.

Entries will accepted at the clubhouse from 8:00 to 9:00 AM with the stakes beginning at 9:00 AM.

The kitchen will be open to provide lunches at a nominal fee.

Everyone is encouraged to take a turn in the field to throw birds.

Come out and support the club and run your dog in some friendly competition.

Ribbons are awarded at the conclusion of the day's tests.

What a gorgeous day for a European hunt! Kenzie and Chad had the privilege to dog handle with Wally and Cleo at Sand Pine Pheasants . If you've never experienced a Euro hunt, it's something to see! Definitely a bucket list way to hunt Pheasants.

How is everyone's seasons going so far?? Memorable, we hope!!

Tipsy got out on her first official hunt this evening. A very basic casual event. No boat, no pre dawn chaos, no decoys, no extra boom sticks. Just Tipsy, her buddy Amos and me. We walked down to the river and set up for an evening pass shoot. While we had a couple of opportunities, we weren't able to capitalize. Nice positive controlled introduction to the sights and smells of waterfowling.

Takeaways: she did really well on her recall and general obedience both on the walk and while we waited. And, she definitely isn't shy of the 💥!
Next time, maybe she'll get to pick up a bird... if I can actually knock one down 🫣

So windy today. We opted to stay off the lake and sleep in after the rain and gusts made the decision easy. Took the opportunity to get some training in after chores got done. Never a day off.

Man was it windy this morning! Figured it would be a quick shoot so we opted for walk in river hunt. Didn't see many but picked off a nice Widgeon. Hopefully this wind pushes in fresh birds!

Seems some days Wally can't take a decent photo. Always with the tongue out. It's like he knows.

Another great day at Sand Pine Pheasants . Today we helped pick up birds for the Midwest Outdoors Unlimited group of disabled and veteran hunters and supporters during another European style hunt. Wally was pretty busy chasing downed birds in the wind so I didn't get many pictures. Honored to help every year.

Amos got to knock the dust off today at Sand Pine Pheasants as a pick up dog for a European style charity shoot. Today's event raised funds for Aim to End Veteran Homelessness. We were honored to help and hear so many success stories.

All the feels when we get pupdates like this!! Copper (Happy) from our spring Wally x Eva litter already crushing it on the duck slough! Owner Parker says Copper is already exceeding his expectations and is excited to see how he continues to develope. And to add to the weekend, the duo got thier first band!! Congrats guys!!

Shout out to Muk on her UKC Started Hunting Retriever (SHR) title today. Muk is a daughter of our Wally. Emily and Muk have worked hard for this first hunting title and they make a great team learning as they go! Congrats you two!!

Mr Amos had a pretty solid opener! Blues, Greens and a Pinner. Oh... and ol green legs for the W. Lots of birds flying, some in front of us and lots behind, above, around or even under! Good day all in all and managed to miss the rain.
