What a way to wrap the 24-25 season.
Interesting weather, interesting places, plenty of birds, great times spent with buddies both old and new, and as always tons of memories supplied by these dogs that bring us all together. Time to put together the training plan to get us where we want to be next fall and check off each day until next September….😊.

With Michigan’s upland season coming to close, the updates from Jeff and Point North’s Bobbie Sue (Josie) have been rolling in. Sounds like Josie has the pheasant thing figured out and on the final day of the season has multiple solid points on some Ruffs of which Jeff did connect with this one.
Counting down the days to next season.

Syd and I were invited to spend the day in the field with -singer of and who owns Point North’s Catch Me If You Can “Chester”. This was the first opportunity I have gotten to get out and hunt with one of the pups from our Syd (Flatlander’s Chicago Bandit) x Vaughn (Falling Feather’s Bit Outside) litter. This 6 month old pup was just a happy floppy puppy at the truck, but once we started walking he became all business. He tackled thicker cover like a big dog and his search was awesome. He wrapped up his run in the field with a pretty darn long mark on a shot bird which he retrieved back to Noah without blinking an eye. (Video to come) 😊 with the pics. And reports I am getting from his litter mates, these guys should be fun to watch!

This past summer I was talking to a buddy about how sometimes the worst conditions make for the best memories. The past few days were no exception. With dropping temps, high winds, blowing snow, windchills well below zero, it had the birds sitting tight which made for some very good dog work and great shot opportunities. All of the dogs shined at one point or another and every bird shot was recovered. It was tough, but we were able to keep up with 5 year old up and comer Brent and I just hope some day he can forgive Ivy for not letting him and his Red Rider spot and stalk the rather large bull moose that passed in front of the truck while they were taking a minute to warm up.

We have one day left of our second ND trip of the year. The new snow and wind yesterday had the birds sitting tight. I’m guessing we had 25 or so solid points capped off with a 300+ yard track and retrieve.
With the same wind and temps falling all day, we better get after it!

For the past few years Ivy and I have gone to ND over the Thanksgiving Holiday. This year with frigid temps forecasted, we called an audible. We decided to try Nebraska instead. We didn’t get into a ton of birds, but we definitely had opportunities. We were fortunate to be able to spend Thanksgiving with a puppy customer turned hunting buddy and friend, see another part of the country, and try and learn another upland species. The dogs hunted their butts off and never lost any enthusiasm, so I was very happy about that.
Time to head home and figure out where to next. 😊

At nine weeks old, Cy is fitting right in at his home at Blackbelt Retrievers down in Alabama.

Poor Lucy….. I realized too late that our set up here was bad. Bird was too close to the road, so no way we could take a safe shot. She did let us know what she thought of that at the end.

Another quick update on Point North’s Aragorn from #bbr_greatlakes Fall can’t come soon enough.

It has been fun watching this guy from our “A” litter go from a energetic cooperative pup earning a max score in his NA test with his first time handler to meeting up with him and EJ in Nebraska, South Dakota, and North Dakota each of the past 2 falls to do some hunting. And now getting to see him from time to time while he’s spending the summer with Anthony at Blackbelt Retrievers Great Lakes for some polishing up.
