Vika's Goldens This page is to update on our previous Golden litters and to list our current or upcoming litters. Pedigree info will be available for each litter.

Our dogs are OFA certified and genetic tested to promote a healthy, happy, loving Golden Retriever. This page is to share info and updates on Vika's puppies. Vika has had 3 litters of puppies. First litter was in December of 2013 and those pups are doing great. One is placed with Can-do-canines and others are family and hunting dogs. We were so impressed with the quality and temperament of these p

uppies that we repeated the breeding in 2015. In 2018 Vika was bred with Newt (Thistle Rock Goldens), brother to Ike. Natasha is out of that litter. In 2019, Vika was retired and will enjoy her roll as Grandmother to Natasha's puppies. Natasha turned 2 in June and completed her OFA testing for Hips, Elbows and Shoulders. She also completed Genetic testing so that we can make sure and breed the healthiest Goldens possible. Tasha was bred in July to Brody (K9 data link is on this page with full pedigree). Brody is out of Bewitched Goldens in Princeton and owned by Dr. Joel Ihnen. He is a 3 year old Golden with health guarantees and is also a Master Hunter. Health guarantee and full registration along with training tips and resources included. Puppies will have dew claws removed, been vet checked and first round of immunizations at 6 weeks. Puppies will be microchipped and you will be provided with AKC reunite membership for life. We also register all pups with AKC. Tasha's first litter was born on September 26th, 2020. She had 5 girls that found amazing homes! Tasha's 2nd litter was due on May 21st and was born on May 19th. In this current litter, she had 5 girls AND 5 boys. They will be ready for their forever homes around July 15th, 2021. A deposit of $500.00 is required to reserve a puppy out of this litter. Final price for the litter born in May 2021 will be $1500. This includes genetic testing, dew claw removal, microchipping, AKC registration and AKC reunite lifetime membership, a full vet check and 1st round of vaccinations. Will ship (additional fees of 400.00 apply for shipping which includes airfare, crate and vet check)

Adolescence occurs between six months and 18 months of age—a time when guardians typically struggle the most with their dogs. Some guardians are so overwhelmed and underprepared for this developmental stage of their dog’s life, they choose to surrender the dog to a local shelter or rescue group. In a recent study published in the Journal of Applied Animal Welfare Science found that the majority of the surrendered dogs (47.7 percent) ) were between 5 months and 3 years of age (M.D. Salman,John G. New, Jr.,Janet M. Scarlett,Philip H. Kass,Rebecca Ruch-Gallie &Suzanne Hetts, 2010)

The neurobiology of adolescence is fascinating, with some key events that alter both the structure and function of the brain.

During canine adolescence, changing s*x hormones effect the animals stress responses. Adolescent dogs have a decreased ability to process information they are receiving from the environment including the presence of dogs, vehicles, people, or really anything around them. They behave in ways that might feel frustrating or upsetting for the dog’s person.

The connectivity between the frontal cortex (responsible for decision making) and amygdala (responsible for emotional processing) decreases, resulting in less behavioral control. We see increased risk taking and more sensitivity to fear.

So what does this mean? This could mean that what was once no big deal to the dog now feels scary; what was once easy to do is now stressful; what once made sense is now confusing. At times, the world can feel like ‘too much’ for the adolescent dog.

As your puppy undergoes this transition into adulthood their inner world is intense, even chaotic. Many pet owners experience an increase in undesirable behavior and find themselves becoming increasingly frustrated. In turn, our own frustration and impatience can cause us to act unpredictably. This adds to our puppy’s inner turmoil. When the inside and the outside are both unpredictable it can be difficult for our dogs to adjust.

If you have an adolescent dog, what can you do? You can give your dog the time and space to observe what is going on around them when on leash at a distance away from the activity when possible. You can give your dog long walks to sniff and explore in nature, giving their brain time to decompress. You can offer your dog a quiet space to sleep so that they can consolidate memories effectively. You can continue training various skills, breaking them down into easier steps that can be generously reinforced.

By understanding what our adolescent dog is experiencing we gain greater compassion and understanding. When we approach adolescence with patience we create a world that is predictable and gentle so our puppies grow up to be their best adult selves.

It is so hard to say good bye to the sweet babies that have consumed my heart and mind for the last 11 weeks (even before…as we planned). But knowing that they are going to loving homes is the reason we do what we do, putting quality golden retrievers into the lives of people that will love them as much as we do.

On National Dog Day…I am sharing the very sweet, amazing little girls that we still have available.
Green is our cuddly, inquisitive, calm, loving little girl. She has the drive to hunt, retrieve, swim and hike. She likes to be where the people are. Her nose can sniff out a treat from far away. She also will spend her evenings being held and cuddled. She gives lots of kisses and needs a morning hug and kiss before eating her breakfast.
Brown is petite, dark brown with curly ears. She has energy and will love to be a hunting buddy, swimming fan, retrieving, hiking or running companion. At the end of the day she will give lots of kisses as she snuggles into your lap to take a nap. When it comes to eating, she loves her food but will come to you between bites for love!

Our Matriarch as a puppy right after we got here in 2011. 13 years ago!!
The last 3 are the last couple of months before we lost her:
Hanging out in my classroom after doing a 3k
Goldzilla - where she swam in a lake with tons of Goldens and tennis balls
17 day trip covering 9 states and lots of adventures.
She is missed all the time. She was my old movie watching, popcorn eating buddy when we were home alone.
Thanks for being you Vika!

Our Story

This page is to share info and updates on Vika's puppies. This is Vika's third litter of puppies. First litter was in December of 2013 and those pups are doing great. One is placed with Can-do-canines and others are family and hunting dogs. Second Litter was born November 5th, 2015. (litter pictured above) Again, a great litter of pups including an LCC Comfort Dog. This is a new breeding for Vika and Thistle Rock’s New Kid on the Block (Newt). Newt is a full brother to Ike (our sire on the last 2 litters). We are very excited for this litter - Newt is a great Golden with a great temperament and drive to work.
