A guide of what’s safe to feed your dog over Christmas 🎄

We're craving our Christmas dinner already, but which foods can you share with your dog? 🍗
Turns out, quite a lot! Do you treat your dog at Christmas? If so, just be confident that you're giving them safe snacks.

You can share ✅
Plain turkey and sausages, veggies like carrots, peas, parsnips and sweet potatoes.

Be sure to avoid ❌
Sweet treats with dried fruits like raisins such as Christmas Pudding, Mince Pies and Stollen. Steer clear of onions, blue cheese and stuffing - and of course, chocolate!

The wonderful Boo

01/11/2024

I’m going to post two videos of Boo’s maintenance Emmi pet cleaning session.
This shows in real time how it works and that it’s preventative health care. I’ve heard some truly shocking stories from clients recently about instruments and metal scrapers being used by others who offer Emmi pet Ultrasonic cleaning! NO ONE, except a veterinary surgeon should be using, instruments, metal tools or scrapers on your animals teeth! DO NOT let anyone do this to your pet, it’s not ok!

Please do your research when choosing someone who offers teeth cleaning!

🚨 Important Tips for Keeping Your Dogs Safe in Hot Weather 🚨

🌊 Provide fresh water to drink

💨 Ensure adequate ventilation

🌳 Offer plenty of shade from the sun

❌ Avoid exercising dogs during the hottest part of the day, especially if they are older, overweight, flat-faced breeds, or have known heart or lung problems

🌅 Walk your dogs during the early morning or late evening or skip the walk altogether if temperatures are high

🚗 Never leave dogs in vehicles. If you see a dog in distress inside a hot car, call 999 immediately

⚠️ Watch for early signs of heatstroke, such as heavy panting, drooling, restlessness, bright red or very pale gums, and lack of coordination

🚑 If you suspect heatstroke or any heat-related condition, move your pet to a cool, well-ventilated space, give small amounts of cool (not ice-cold) water to drink, and pour room-temperature water over them to cool them down

📞 Call your vet for advice immediately if you're concerned

Keep your furry friends safe this summer! 🐾💕

🌞 Essential Tips for Keeping Your Cats Cool and Comfortable 🌞

🌊 Provide fresh water to drink

💨 Ensure adequate ventilation

🌳 Offer plenty of shade from the sun

☀️ Use a 30 SPF or above pet-safe sunscreen on pale ears and noses

❄️ Provide a cool mat, fan, or frozen water bottles covered in towels

🚪 Don't shut cats inside; they are usually good at staying cool and will seek out a cool area on their own

✂️ Consider trimming thick or long hair to make them more comfortable. Talk to your vet or groomer about trimming their coat

🏠 Make sure they have access to cool areas in their home

Calling all rabbit and guinea pig owners! 🐇🐇
I am offering a “fly strike” (MAGGOTS)prevention package.
Bottom clip, health check, nail clip, application of a fly strike prevention treatment ( this product lasts for3 months). £25 each rabbit and £15 each Guinea pig. Discount for 2 or more rabbits.

I am passionate about preventative health care in all species and with “Fly strike (Myiasis)” season upon us I want to raise awareness of:

When it can happen.

Any time of year but especially common in summer, lots of flies are about!

Risk factors.

Rabbits or guinea pigs with dirty bottoms are at very high risk, older less mobile rabbits it guinea pigs that can’t clean themselves properly, wounds attract flies and obesity.
A dirty living area also increases the risk.

What fly strike is.

Flystrike is also called ‘myiasis’. It happens when flies lay their eggs on your rabbit/guinea pig, and those eggs hatch out into maggots. Maggots from blowflies: bluebottles and green bottles, are the most dangerous. They can eat into your rabbit’s flesh within 24 hours which can cause death in a very short time.

Spot the signs.
Fly eggs laid in the rabbits/Guinea pigs coat, change in behaviour or appetite, maggots!

How to prevent it.

Check your pets bottom every day, more than once a day in the summer.
If there is any urine or faeces, clean and dry the area.
Keep your pets environment clean so that flies are not attracted. Remove dirty litter and bedding.
Apply a preventative treatment, especially for fly strike prevention.
If your pet is obese, it needs to lose weight so that there is less strain on joints, it is able to squat properly when toileting and it is able to clean itself properly.
If your pet has a wound, keep it clean and dry.
If you suspect your rabbit has a urinary problem, then take it to the vet for diagnosis and treatment.
If your rabbit is producing unusually wet faeces, take it to the vet for diagnosis and treatment, and be prepared to change the diet accordingly.
If you suspect your pet has arthritis, ask the vet for anti-inflammatory medicine to ease pain in joints and ensure it isn’t overweight.

What to do if it happens to your pet.
If you find fly eggs or maggots on your pet this is an emergency, it doesn’t matter if it is day or night, you need to see your vet.
Pick any maggots off of your rabbit but don’t let this delay you getting to your vet.
Fly strike is a very serious condition and can often be fatal.

Bow has had a good day, she’s been talking and eaten well.
She’s such a star to treat, she’s had her subcutaneous fluids and pain relief and is snuggled up for the night.

Beautiful and brave ‘Bow’ a short video of her settling in for the weekend.
