The only way to know how the genetics of a puppy will play out is to know the parents! I tell my puppy parents all the time; I take no credit for my pups being perfect; they’re quite literally born that way and I have the honor to raise their little selves and teach them manners ❤️🥹🐾🐕

Someone sent me this a good while back and I’ve shared it several times … I think Kelsey (the original poster) is on here herself …. What she says here is something I’ve tried my damndest to get across to the public. We’re gonna focus on “dog trainers cannot fix genetics” …. Because that’s what and who they are…, as it pertains to your dog’s given genetics. Slow to develop, not prey driven enough, hates water like his ancestors, etc…. There’s only so much a person can do to cover up and bring to life in an animal with average genetics Athletes train for years to make it to the next level…. High school to college, college to the pros, pros to all stars or even hall of fame …. It’s not possible to take an average talent level hunting dog from a pup or juvenile and make him a “trained dog” in 3-4 months In the case of versatile hunting dogs, you’ve got pointing birds, any possible fur work, engage tracking with various exercises, water work, retrieving on land and water of fur and feather …. And on and on and on and to what degree polish do you want or expect…..? Them gifted athletes are working day in and day out for decades to get to where they need to be What happens when there’s set backs or struggles …. Guess what …. That eats up “Time” …. And in this business it’s a race against time Those given genetics are gonna shine “good or bad” ….. high prey drive or low prey drive, extreme love of water or no love of water, extreme desire to retrieve or minimal desire to retrieve, full speed ahead attitude or meek and mild All of this stuff matters

It's simple. Life is not going to be Disneyland every day. Puppies need to be able to seamlessly move from a stimulating environment to a less stimulating environment. We want them to be able to self soothe. It is a skill they need when they go home.

Every dog trainer will tell you this when it comes to properly potty training a dog of any age.

USE A CRATE.

If your dog is whining/barking/howling/freaking out - it’s because they are trying to see how far they have to go to get you to break and give them what they want.

Dogs are master manipulators and will attempt anything to get what they want.

Dogs are selfish and will do whatever they think will get them what they want in that moment.

They are also quick learners, meaning, if you cave and let them out if that crate simply because they’re whining, they will continue to attempt that same behavior. Now they’re training you…

Put them in a routine, a schedule, and stick to it! They will get it!

🐕🐾Balto is just the goodest boi! His favorite pastimes are hunting lizards and chasing the water from the hose 😜🐾

He is our only boy, a MameShiba of 12 lbs imported from South Korea 🇰🇷, ( ) and he is friendly, affectionate, goofy, loyal, obedient, and has an “off switch”. He’s not only great with my toddlers but is a loving boy to his girls and packmates and the kitty too!

There’s a post going around claiming MameShiba have very bad hips; that is just not the case at all, bad breeders cause this, not a breed in general! MameShiba have been around in Japan since the 50’s and there have been ethical breeders since their conception, Shiba Inu lovers who can appreciate the majestic breed in a smaller and easier to travel with package. Also, so kawaii ! 🥹

Our dogs’ hips are all perfect and we’d like to share the MameShiba from our programs’ hips to show how to ethically breed these amazing little dogs. Of course, all other health tests were passed as well including DNA, knee and eye screening exams.

We are so thrilled and proud to announce our entire pack of pups passed all of their OFA health testing consisting of screenings for Hip Dysplasia, Luxating Patella, and Eye Diseases.

Be on the lookout for their CHIC (Canine Health Information Center) numbers reflecting their fully health tested status!

We also go well beyond these breed requirements by using DNA testing to eliminate other possible health problems within the breed and to make better pairing and breeding decisions.

This is just another way, besides our incredibly stringent temperament standards, that we are improving this breed for companionship and maintaining the high standards of conformation and appearance.

All of our dogs’ testing is available publically on the OFA.org website or on our dogs’ individual profiles on our GoodDog page.

Dogs come with many pre-installed behaviors like shredding, interacting with their own species, running/chasing and hunting to name a few. All too often, domestic dogs don't have appropriate outlets for them.

This can lead to boredom, destruction, frustration (for owners and dogs!) and decreased quality of life.

Enter enrichment.

Enrichment is more than work-to-eat toys; it's providing outlets for natural behaviors. And often, it's a big part of behavioral problem solving and part of my overall training plan for clients. It's not a nice little extra thing we add it. It's a critical part of the puzzle.
