The Parking Lot, cyberspace, formerly of Evanston IL This site is mainly about music, friends formed thru music, and is for people passionate about music. Dream, dance, play... The Parking Lot, Inc.

please feel free to post about music you have seen, will see, promote your own music if you are a musician. of Evanston IL was a store owned by Coertje and Bill Hesse from March 1992 to May 1998. It was about much more than selling items. It was about more than promoting local musicians and artists and crafts people. It was about most of all making a comfortable relaxing place to meet new and old

friends.... to listen to Bill tell riddles and stories, to have him encourage young and old to play with toys on the toy table. It was about exchanging and offering copying tapes of live music shows. It was about community. Dogs were allowed in the store, people fell asleep on the love seat, and people were asked to take a "free gift" before they left the store. Though the store is physically gone, its spirit and the friendships made there live on.

WALL OF SOUND SPECIAL

This weekend marks the 50th Anniversary of the wonder of the audio world known as the Wall of Sound, the greatest P.A. system ever built, which made its official debut at the Cow Palace in San Francisco on March 23rd, 1974 and was used by the Grateful Dead until they started their nearly two-year hiatus from touring in October of that year.

To celebrate, the Grateful Dead Channel has created a special program that takes a deep dive into the history of the Wall, with Tales From the Golden Road hosts David Gans and Gary Lambert interviewing their SiriusXM colleague Big Steve Parish, who was an integral part of the legendary Grateful Dead crew that helped build and maintain the system - as well as set up and tear down that behemoth at each show and haul if from city to city. The show also features musical interludes from the brief but glorious lifespan of the Wall.

The special will air at the following times:

Thursday, 3/21 - 10 am ET
Friday, 3/22 - 5 pm ET
Saturday, 3/23 - 3 pm ET
Sunday, 3/24 - 9 am ET
