Here’s a weird one for you guys, the Arafura File Snake!
These guys are commonly found in freshwater streams and billabongs in Northern Australia but have been known to migrate to flooded grasslands and mangroves during the wet season. They are a non-venomous species and are known to be quite placid. They usually grow to around 1.5 metres but have been known to reach 2.5 metres in length.
They get their name from the unusual texture and pattern of their scales, which are said to feel like a wood file. The roughness of their scales is used to help constrict fish, ensuring they don’t slip out of the snakes grasp. They have extremely low metabolic rates and only feed about once a month on average.
They are able to spend between two to three hours under water, and only surface when they are in need of oxygen.

The three-eyed snake warns The Dry is coming!

Our Rangers found a three-eyed snake on the Arnhem Highway near Humpty Doo just out of Darwin. It was a juvenile, approximately 40cm long.

The snake is peculiar as an x-ray revealed it was not two separate heads forged together, rather it appeared to be one skull with an additional eye socket and three functioning eyes.

It was generally agreed that the eye likely developed very early during the embryonic stage of development. It is extremely unlikely that this is from environmental factors and is almost certainly a natural occurrence as malformed reptiles are relatively common.

DREAMTIME REPTILES

Has anyone spotted a wild albino reptile before? Stumbled across this one of a kind snake in NSW and grabbed some quick pics (sorry for average photography skills) the only known albino Dwarf Crowned Snake (Cacophis krefftii) potentially on record? It was accidentally dug up in a mates garden then released. Being only 10cm in length the gardener thought it was an earth worm!

Waving Hello, or practicing Ballet? Video sent in By: Megan Groves

A friend of mine recently had this happen in a clutch of diamond pythons he bred. Here's the video, the photo is posted below. It was cut out after it didn't come out five days later than it's clutch mate and that was the result, it was put down after the video was taken, the body was fused together in the mid section, it's heart was outside of it's body, it had no top jaw, one eye and it's tongue flickered a few times
