A really clear explanation why generic stretches - and polework for that matter - may not get the results you hope for. Remedial Exercise should only be prescribed after a case history, static and dynamic assessment have been taken by a qualified veterinary physiotherapist.

We at the NAVP are proud to be helping so many people with the care of their animals during this lock down period. For the time being this is having to happen remotely, but we know you and we know your animals. This means we can tailor programmes to you which will enable your animal to progress despite the lack of physio:animal contact. Please don’t hesitate to contact your Veterinary Physiotherapist should you have any questions. We are here for you and look forward to seeing you again soon.

Good progress.

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Council has approved a pathway for veterinary and animal health paraprofessionals to become associates of or accredited by the College and therefore fall within the RCVS regulatory remit.

Much to think about here. Less is more can be a better way.

I wanted to share this photo from today. This is a gullet plate from a synthetic saddle where the owner reported an uncharacteristic change in performance in their horse, including not wanting to go forwards. I discovered some painful trigger point areas caudal to the left shoulder which may indicate possible saddle related issues. Further inspection revealed that the left side of the gullet plate had completely snapped, causing corresponding soreness behind the left shoulder. There were no outward signs of damage on the saddle, and it had not been dropped, rolled on etc......
Should your horse show signs of poor performance, altered behaviour, it is always worth getting the saddle fit checked, and also, importantly check the integrity of the gullet plate!!

A report funded by the Morris Animal Foundation (MAF) out of the University of Georgia has found tramadol to be ineffective in alleviating signs of pain associated with osteoarthritis in dogs.

Thank you to Nicole Rombach, supported by Kay Burt, for a great weekend of CPD learning about Neurokinetic Therapy. It is a fascinating approach to balancing muscle function and movement re-education. I learnt a huge amount and met some dedicated animal therapists with a wide range of skills. Looking forward to learning more about this innovative approach.

Congrats to the first ever grads from NKT Equine in Essex, UK! There were some dramatic results for the students' horses, which we'll post soon.
