We want to share a story about a special beardie. This little guy had a slow start and at one point one of his clutch mates had tussled with him over food. We separated the little guy for him to heal, grow and get healthy again. He took a little bit to get better but we nursed him back and in the process fondly gave him the nickname of “Junior”. Junior finally became strong and healthy again and we took him with us to Rexpo in July where we met the nicest family who had done all their homework and were finally ready to get their dream beardie. We were so happy to have him go off to such a wonderful family.
Fast forward a month later and the family contact us and let us know that for no known reason Junior had passed. We were so upset for the family and wanted them to still have their dream baby, so we offered them a replacement.
Today we reunited with the family to give them their new baby and in return they gave us this beautiful gift! We are just speechless and so in love with it! Thank you so much, Justin Kahn, it’s customers like you that share the same passion as us that keep us going!!! We hope you all enjoy your new baby!!

The fringed leaf frog (Cruziohyla craspedopus), also known as the fringed tree frog, is a very interesting arboreal frog known from Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and western Brazil. When at rest, the frog sits so that the bright yellow areas of its underparts are completely hidden. That posture, along with the shaped “fringes” of skin on the outside edges of its face and limbs give these frogs a very effective camouflage, resembling the leaves it hides among in the upper rainforest canopy. These frogs are known to display a dramatically different coloration at night, changing to a “burgundy” reddish-brown. This color change is caused by the rise and fall of a hormone, intermedin, which causes changes to the frog’s chromatophore structure.

We had a great time at REXPO yesterday and look forward to coming back in October!

We also wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone that when purchasing a new pet, to do your homework. Not just about how to properly care for your pet, but also who you are purchasing it from.

Yesterday we witnessed a customer come and purchase bearded dragons from a vendor that knew nothing about the age, health, genetics, parents etc about the beardies they were selling because they “got them from a friend.”
What was more bothersome was that this “customer” was just a worker at a *local Niagara County reptile business* who was sent to Rexpo to buy cheap bearded dragons to sell at the store because they had “run out”.

So buyers beware of who you are buying from. Ask the information. Ask for parent pictures. Ask about temperament and behaviors. Ask about their eating habits. Ask. Ask. Ask!! If they can’t give you answers or information, don’t buy!!
