Moved the last nuc into the yard today! Since the other established hives are growing fast and producing a lot of honey we had to add supers to give them more room. Looking good, happy and healthy. We spent the morning splitting all 3 of our hives into 3 nucs! We removed frames full of nectar, eggs and brood & placed them into nuc boxes. Now these smaller boxes will stay in another yard miles away for weeks while they settle in and create their own colonies. It was a beautiful day today, decided to stop down to the bee yard to check on the girls. They were bringing in pollen! With the weather having been so cold lately, this was a sight for sore eyes.
Our new bee feeders! Right before winter & in the beginning of spring we like to feed the bees a sugar water mixture while there are no honey supers on so they can build enough storage while natures not producing enough nectar for them to collect. Thanks for the demonstration Earl! 👍🏻

Ever wonder how we get the bees away from the honey before we extract it?! Here's a quick video where we talk about using a fume board. It's just a lid that goes on the beehives that has some foam on the inside. We spray a mixture of almond extract and rubbing alcohol on to the foam and pop it on top of the hive.
Even though almond extract smells delicious, the bees don't like it! They move out of the top boxes and down into the lower brood boxes to get away from the smell, so it's a great, peaceful way to herd the bees :)
