Hey there! It’s been a while. And I’ve got a little update…
For the past year, I’ve been doing my best to balance working with my amazing coaching clients with making leashes with marketing, design and social media with a whole OTHER job with…well, the rest of my life. The result of this juggling act is that I haven’t been able to fully commit to developing or getting the right amount of excited about any one area.
So I’ve decided to pause the “coaching” side and to focus on the “gear” side of The Everydog Co. I’m sure I’ll come back to working with dog coaching and behavior someday, but right now, this feels right.
And I’m SUPER excited to show off what I’ve been working on. 😬Our leash line is finally getting the attention it deserves and it’s gonna be pretty awesome (in my humble opinion).
In a previous era I was a fine artist, and having the time and energy again to channel my creativity into designing and building beautiful and useful things is getting me alllll fired up.🕺
Spoiler alert: Get ready for all-new branding and some two-toned Biothane beauties! 😍

Is it weird that my main goal on every walk is to find a nice spot to STOP walking?
To just be still and look and breathe and smell and listen and think. It’s my favorite part of any walk, and I think it’s Rosie’s, too.

Hot tip: directly after teaching your dog something, take a break to do an activity they LOVE to do… like a game of tug, hide and seek, or chewing on a bone. This helps the new learning to sink in, creates positive connections, and it gives your dog an opportunity to get out any pent up energy. 👏
Also…you have not truly played tug until you have played tug with a teenage terrier. 😅

I don't consider myself a "dog trainer" these days (although you may still hear me call myself that in certain contexts for simplicity's sake).

This simple skill might be THE most useful thing you ever teach your pup! 🐕
🕺Time to level-up your Middle! Once you've mastered Part 1 (check out my previous video), you're ready to start really solidifying the skill. Here's how to do it: 1. Gradually make your body language more subtle, so that eventually you only need to say your verbal cue. 2. Now imagine you're on a clock face. At this point, you should be tossing out your release cue food out between 11 and 1. Gradually, start tossing some food out to 10 and 2. 3. Once your dog is successful there, try tossing food out to 9 and 3. 4. Keep practicing, always varying the challenge level. For example, toss to 12, then 10, then 1, then 3. *If your dog gets stuck at any point, use your body language to show them what to do. Then toss the food to an easier spot for a while and try again. 5. When your dog is ready, toss the food in front of you. 6. Continue practicing until they are able to get into Middle from any starting point. 7. Now you're ready to use Middle in "real life" for recall, check-ins, reactivity training, and just for fun!
