EQUINE DENTISTRY UPDTATE
Equine Dentals in your area this month … book a place today!
15 January – PALMERSTON/WAIKOUAITI
22 January – OAMARU
29 January – MIDDLEMARCH
A bit of an equine update! I hope everyone is enjoying riding this summer and managing the grass growth alright. There are some challenges to be had with the green flush that we keep getting after the rain (good for the farmers, not so good for our ponies and horses!).
I’ve been enjoying working with the Veterinary Centre team over the last 6 months and seeing a range of equine cases. For those who don’t know me, I have post-grad qualifications in equine dentistry and my dental service involves sedation of horse, oral examination with light and mirror, and rasping using a power float. I have found some new clients have reservations about sedation- my sedation protocol is very safe, and the benefits are that we can provide a higher level of dental care which has lots of flow on benefits. If you want to know what is going on in your horse’s mouth, then we really need to sedate. If there are health concerns, then sometimes I address those rather than sedating.
I can also do dental radiographs but only at our clinic facilities. These images can be so helpful in working up tricky cases!
I’m organising a few dental runs in the following weeks: Palmerston/Waikouaiti on Wednesday 15 January, Oamaru on Wednesday 22 January and Middlemarch on Wednesday 29 January.
If people are willing to bring their horses to a central location, we can do a discount (at least 6 horses per location), otherwise I am happy to go from property to property. Please pm me to arrange an appointment
