Raven's Reptile Rescue UK We are a completely non-profit, reptile rescue based in Peterborough UK. Welcome to Raven's Reptile Rescue.

We are a completely non-profit reptile rescue based in the UK. We are hobbyists who specialise in small and medium-sized reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. We are here to help provide a safe home for abandoned, unwanted, or otherwise in-need animals. We rehome many of our rescues; however, if for any reason they are not suitable for rehoming, we aim to look after them for the rest of their lives.

While winners have not been announced for the November Lottery. We do want to congratulate the lucky ticket holders.

A bigger thank you to our now four lottery players, your support means the world. 💚

For those who know Matt and me, you know we are not the best at asking for financial support. To us, it feels like begging, especially in a time when we know that a lot of people are counting the pennies. We need to get used to asking for help, as running the rescue is something we both love, but it costs a lot.
We currently send £200 a month for a month, just for food. This doesn't account for the other costs.

Every £10 ticket helps us continue our mission of rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. It also helps us support those animals who remain with us like Hades, who is a blind Bearded Dragon.

You can check out the winners page on our lottery page or by clicking here: https://ravensreptileslottery.joinourlottery.org.uk/winners?tr=RAREWEB

We are at risk of shutting our doors permanently. We are already turning away severe medical cases because we can’t afford the vet bills that comes with them, and who knows what happens to those animals then :(

We have tried to raise money in other ways like the creation of “friends of ruby’s reptiles”, an instagram group chat that gets insider information on the rescue, the animals and how it is run, but apart from 3 people, nobody else has joined.

In October alone we spent over £1,000 on the rescue. This included vets bills, food, supplements and other necessities and received £40 in standalone donations. We hate that we have to come online and beg for donations, but that has not been working.

If we don’t start receiving donations soon, we are going to have to permanently close down, leaving a massive gap in aid for reptiles in our area and the UK. We really do not want to do this, but we receive no funding or grants or any government support. We do this all ourselves and from the donations you guys give!

What a permanent closure would look like: we would remain open for advice until all current rescues are adopted out. Once all rescues have been adopted we would shut our website down. We would keep our instagram open for anyone that has any questions but after a while would likely shut this down too. This would leave only one other reptile rescue in the south wales area open. We do not want this to happen and the work we do is honestly too important for this.

So please, donate, share and support the work we do before it’s too late ❤️

Two days ago, on Wednesday, we took in this guy. This is Rango, who we were informed was 14 years old and had mobility issues, and so that's what we were prepared for.
To say we were angry and upset at the state of his health upon arrival is an understatement. We're no strangers to animals arriving in poor condition, but this one was a bit too much, even for us.
He had a third of his tail missing (apparently from poor shedding), a patch on his tail with no scales at all, a lump in his left eye, discharge from his right, dental disease, pale gums, fused hips (he had almost no back end mobility) potential gout in his forelimbs, neurological issues, dehydration, malnourishment, and very clear MBD as confirmed by X-ray (bone density was very weak, even for a beardie his age.

I can't really fault the people who surrendered him. They had him for a fortnight after getting him out of a bad situation from a relative and did what they thought was right.
That relative, however, is responsible for the neglect and suffering this boy had to endure. I will not sugarcoat it because that's what this was: neglect, pure and simple.
There is absolutely no excuse for allowing this to happen, no excuse for letting things get this far. This poor beardie suffered for a long time in an enclosure that was too small, with improper equipment, diet, and an owner who didn't care one bit. Rango deserved better.

It was today that we decided to give him some dignity and let him cross the rainbow bridge peacefully. We did what we could to try and give him comfort and love for the days he was here. Our only consolation is that he is no longer suffering and hopefully experienced comfort and safety while with us.

I can't stress enough the importance of having the correct environment. I don't care if it's a breeder, shop owner, beginner, or someone in the hobby for decades, we have a duty of care to these animals, and it's our responsibility to keep up to date with standards. "I've done it this way for 20 years" doesn't sit, there is no excuse.

Matt

Do you check the facts?

Animal rights campaigners use disinformation and lies to distort the truth about reptile keeping. RRK is fighting back by exposing their propaganda.

We oppose and refute the misinformation about reptile keeping. Because false claims aren’t just annoying, they have damaging consequences for animals, keepers and businesses. Every misleading post or article can lead to overreaching laws.

To learn more on how extremists twist animal welfare debates, read our article about a law proposal that would have effectively ended pet ownership in Sweden.

Meet Hamish.
Hamish is a ten year old Crested Gecko who arrived yesterday afternoon. Hamish was a little nervous but has settled overnight finding a comfy spot to sleep in. He is such a little sweet gecko.

🐾 Update on Pinkie! 🦎

We’re thrilled to share that after several vet visits and lots of love, Pinkie the leopard gecko is all healed up! 🎉

We’re still not entirely sure how he got injured, but he bounced back beautifully. Thank you to everyone who donated to his fundraiser and for your support during his recovery! 💖
