👀 Our third horse and rider combination 👀
17yo Mimi Jones and 17.2hh, 12yo warmblood, George.
👉 Mimi has ridden from a young age, starting with Showing and Side Saddle before moving to Showjumping and then finally starting to event in 2019.
👉 Having been selected to ride for her region at the U18 Championships for the last 3 years at 90, 100cm and 2*, including being Team Captain, she hopes to be selected again for this, he final year.
👉 As well as evening at many different events up and down the Country Mimi is an active member of the Pony Club and is working towards getting her Young Instructors Qualification.
👉 George will start this season at Novice and then when ready the aim is to step up to Intermediate/3*.
👉 Prior to being bought in 2020 for Mimi’s sister to ‘have a go’ at Eventing George had done some show jumping and 3 BE events….where he was eliminated at two of them!! Since then he has progressively worked up the levels.
👉 His strongest phase in the cross country where he literally just looks at the flags and goes…making a 2* track feel like a 100!
👉 Mimi goes on to say “While he will never be a top level 5* horse he has exceeded all expectations and there is still more to come.”
📌 Tickets cost £36 and be bought by either messaging me or via Horse Monkey

Sometimes I wonder if I’m always looking for there to be an issue and if I should, perhaps, just ‘ignore and ride through’ unusual behaviour a bit more. But today Cos was acting out of character under saddle and she was telling me she wasn’t happy. She’s sound and comfortable otherwise so I asked Rui Campeao to take our lesson in hand instead. This was a really valuable session where she still had to step through behind, engage and focus on what she was being asked to do…BUT…we just did it without the rider. Now to work out what she wasn’t happy with when I was onboard!
First competition of 2023 for me and it’s safe to say she was feeling a little spooky!!
Great practice for me though as I’m fully expecting her to be quite ‘looky’ when we go to the Regionals.
My biggest take away from today is not to chase her…even if her eyes are in stalks I need to allow her a bit more time within the pace. And, needless to say, we will be utilising as many arena walks as possible!
Today was also the my first show with the Quantum Competition Noseband and I was thrilled to have no drop off of performance, although my ideal would be that we can revert back to the original cavesson noseband as there is just less leather on the head, so less to irritate/cause issues.

No extra words needed!! Pretty sure all equestrians know how I feel about this!! 😂
Today marked the end of an era for me.
Romeo Baker came to stay for a 2 week holiday back in 2008…and he ended up staying for over 14 years!! But today was the day that he returned to his real Mum…Louise Baker.
Last year, aged 20, Romy came back from a field injury to return to the dressage arena where he scored a personal best and featured in Horse and Hound. But, conscious of his age and physical issues, the decision was made not to push him and he has gradually been eased into retirement.
I have been beyond lucky to have been entrusted with the care of this very special horse. His massive personality meant that he soon became the King of the Yard and he seemed to exude an aura that let the other horses know that he was the boss!!
Compromised in his body, Rom more than made up for it with his heart and his willingness to try (often to my detriment in a test situation). I don’t have enough fingers and toes to count how many times I was offered a piaffe instead of a walk, or tempis instead of a single change, or a change instead of a straight line of canter! Being hyper mobile meant Romeo could get his body into all sorts of strange and wonderful shapes and positions!
I think the phrase is often used too readily but Romeo truly has been a Horse of a Lifetime for me. He has taught me so much about horsemanship and management and I feel a great sense of pride and achievement that he retired sound and well aged 20, despite his many challenges.
I don’t measure my achievements with Romeo by his competition record as he was so much more than just a dressage score but I can’t do this little tribute to him without mentioning some of his (our) achievements:
⭐️ Winter Champs at Medium
⭐️ Qualified for the Petplan Champs twice at Advanced Medium (but only went once thanks to Covid!)
⭐️ We did the Home Internationals with Team North West
⭐️ I achieved my wish to ride in my tails and we won our first (and only) Advanced test.
Louise - thank yo
2 fantastic days with Visconte Cocozza and the Core Conditioning for Horses clinic culminated in a quick run through of our music (which I hadn’t ridden since early ‘21). It was by no means polished but hopefully enough of a reminder before competing tomorrow!! 🎠🎶 I absolutely love this music by Chris Lever Music and I could just listen to it day after day.
Lots of happy horses and riders, and the weather shone for us all! ☀️🌞
I love how Simon’s work compliments that of my dressage trainer. With both focusing on making Rom stronger and stronger. And with that he keeps looking younger and younger.
Roll on the August clinic!!

What a fantastic weekend camp with @campeaorui!
🐴 We made new friends.
🐴 We immersed ourselves in the world of dressage and furthered our education.
🐴 We had a laugh.
🐴 And we drank too much!! (Well, I did!!) 🍷
Cannot wait for the next camp/clinic coming in July.
Here’s a little snippet of Cosmo’s trot work as I was too busy having fun to take other pictures!!! Oops!

Some of you may remember the great Xmas Tree Cake Debacle….well this time the kids project was to make a statue associated with royalty….
If you’ve had a bit to drink, squint and use a LOT of imagination you may see……a Corgi!!!!!!

What a glorious morning!!
I’ve just taken 5 minutes to sit down and enjoy the peace and quiet after a hectic Easter weekend.

Poor Cosmo has had a busy few weeks lately. Today was a test riding clinic at a new venue.
So proud of how she takes things, processes them and then works.
She will have a few days off now followed by more hacking!!
Totally overdramatic on the music front!! But very very pleased with Cosmo today with Rui Campeao.
For a horse that predominantly hacks and does Core Conditioning groundwork she just gets better and better each time she has a rare ridden session in the school.

I am extremely lucky to train with 2 incredible trainers who compliment each other so well. This weekend was one of our core conditioning clinics with Visconte Cocozza.
Marie has done an amazing job of firstly backing Cosmo for me and then carrying on with the hacking and general education. This week I took a more active role and got my bum in her saddle. 2 months ago this mare didn’t know how to stretch and clinic 1 she was quite reactive about giving it a go. Move forward 2 months of groundwork combined with hacking and the odd week off whilst I’ve been busy and this was our first ridden session with Simon.
This is the 4th time I’ve ridden her this year! Day 1 was Tuesday this week and she hadn’t made the connection between the groundwork and doing it under saddle. Day 2 saw a little understanding and day 3 a little but more…and here is evidence of day 4!
I’m blown away by her attitude, her trust in me and what a little sponge she is. I’m very excited for her future.
Day 2 of the @campeaorui dressage camp.
Changes have been a MASSIVE mental block for me for quite some years, add in the fact that Romeo is hyper mobile and can place his body in all sorts of weird and wonderful places that others can’t achieve and I’ve always struggled to bring the tempis together. My counting clearly still needs some work but we’re getting there!!
I really enjoyed this lesson, it was early evening, warm, the drinks were flowing and the support from the other camp members was really warming.
I can’t wait for the next one!!
