Everyone is celebrating a day without rain… so far . The sheep got sheared yesterday and they are soooooo happy to be free from all that winter wool . ( the shearer was excellent) . The donkeys meet the new farrier this weekend, and I’m so excited to have an Amish farrier again. We have multiple Amish communities right around us , and we finally tried the famous donuts everyone was talking about… OMG yummmmmm. Sadly DD’s is a sad comparison now , we are hooked . Lots of projects going on here and excited to get the old farm back on the market soon with a realtor this time . I’m taking a mental vacation from all that lol. I’m surprisingly missing my planting and the anticipation of so many pumpkins that grow on their own ( I’d love to take credit for them, but it all started with a pig p**p and a pumpkin seed😂😂😂) I’ve decided to start growing again next year . A greenhouse and a farm stand in the big open clearing at the bottom of the property. ( last picture) that’s next years goal . We got a thumbs up from the ACO and the CEO on the animals, and the new barns , so that made me feel good . New town , and we are being welcomed so far. The donkeys took a little adventure, but TG that ended ok, and the brats got more fencing and more electric fencing and while we were at it , we extended their yard … the celebration that took place when we opened the gates was hilarious… legs kicking in the air and the famous Elvis farts 😂😂😂😂😂. Will keep the updates coming and hey we just reached 1008 followers . THANK YOU , THATS AWESOME. ❤️

She is absolutely ridiculous… laying stretched out in the sun acting like she is dying, because the drama Queen wants a cookie. I’m working on that barn, so she has her eyes on me😂. But…. It’s working, she’s getting a cookie 🍪

Hi . It’s me Carrie. Yes I’m still alive and kicking…. A long overdue update on this move….. first, I’d like to say, if you ever plan on moving onto undeveloped land ….. WAIT UNTIL SUMMER AND FALL…. holy hell, trying to build and move animals in the winter and mud season is just dumb . Everything that could go wrong has and does . Half a house , half built , leaking and flooding . No hot water, no washer and dryer, just a few of the things I thought I’d be ok without lol… turns out I’m not the pioneer woman I thought I was. Guess I’m spoiled. Now, onto bigger and better things …. The animals. The move was very scary for them as they have been very sheltered from anything unpleasant. They are used to a schedule and routine, and this move ( 4 hour round trip) definitely changed schedules and getting into a trailer was not everyone’s favorite new adventure… BUT , there were a few that did unbelievable.. Beba was just so easy . He walked right in like a little gentleman, took his spot and actually helped calm down the others , like Puggles and Emmy …. The trailer couldn’t make it up the hill to the barns , so we had to walk goats and sheep, cows and donkeys in the dark to the waiting barns … some were during the day, but the majority ended up after dark . They actually really like their barns , as they are very bright with lots of natural light and they can all see each other and visit all day . I designed these barns so that the animals all have a clear view throughout the barn. Even Memphis has joined the others . We had an unexpected death, which had NOTHING to do with the move, but has left a huge hole in our hearts . It was a medical condition and just bad timing. I’m not in anyway ready to talk about that , as I need time to heal and process, so please just be respectful and let us get the animal buried and I’ll give more details when I’m ready . ( no offense but I’m going to ignore the personal messages that always immediately come after I ask for time) …. We’ve got sooooo much work to do to get this house finished, or at least water tight , a septic still needs to go in . The ground around the house needs leveling and drainage. I’ve been working on the animals outdoor enclosures, I’ve got 7 of them almost complete. The animals are all in good spirits and really are adjusting much better than expected. I think still having their mom, singing the same dumb songs, still feeding 3X a day helps keep them feeling secure. It’s a whole different world up here, and by the fall, we should be in much better shape . Now we just need some good weather. I’m not going to say things are great, as far as my personal happiness…. Still feeling the shock and disappointment of a failed marriage… whether it can ever be repaired is a big ? …. I have too much to do here to even go there yet . The animals deserve their happily ever after, and that’s what they’re gonna get . I’m excited to start my new book this fall sometime, “ A VERY SMILEY THANKSGIVING “
Of course all of your favorites will be in the book, with a few new characters added that you all know and love . And last but not least , My Squishtopher Robin , my guardian angel hasn’t left my side and keeps me going, even when I want to give up. I hope everyone is doing well, and I’ll try to do better with the updates . ❤️

Hi everyone. First, I want to apologize for not posting much of anything, and especially updates on the new property. It’s been , probably the most challenging thing in my life to get through. It started out as a way to live mortgage free( that is still true) there is a small land payment for the next 9 1/2 years , but no mortgage . It was a way to be able to retire with all the animals, while prices continue to skyrocket, and cost to care for this many animals has already tripled since I started this Sanctuary. It was also supposed to be “ our “ dream home . Built exactly to “ our” wishes and very private. I have cheap taste , but can decorate to make anything look beautiful ( in my opinion, and sometimes overboard taste) . Nothing fancy or top of the line, but beautiful, with windows overlooking the animals and mountains in the distance. It was “ our “ dream retirement home ….. I thought my husband and I shared the same dream , as he never led me to believe otherwise. But in late August I found out that we were definitely NOT on the same page . I guess I was to be the loving , loyal housewife, who ran the farm and cooked, cleaned etc etc. , and he would be , basically living the single life behind my back . Multiple dating sites , an online girlfriend he had fun with , while I’m in the next room . So , you can imagine how that all went down . The “ dream “ as it was , is no longer . Yes, We are still getting the place ready, still moving there, but my heart just isn’t the same. I hope I can fix it , but not sure. I’m concentrating on my animals, and looking into ways to bring in an income , while still running the Sanctuary full time . He is still building up there. I’m going on the weekends and setting barns up, getting the house and camper at least somewhat move in ready. The people buying this farm are in the mobile home right now as we finish up. We will be up in Porter by March 1st . Lots of weather related slow downs , but still pushing forward . As hurt and angry as I am , I can still say that he has been busting his ass up there building. That part I do appreciate….. the rest, not so much . There are two (20’ by 40’ ) goat/ sheep barns . One (22’ by 20’ ) cow/ donkey barn. An (8’ by 15’) cat house , and then there will be a few other animal structures for pigs and of course our harder to handle guy, Memphis. The house will be an ongoing project after barns and outdoor enclosures are done . Here are some pictures of the progress. If you know me , I tell it all. The good, the bad, the ugly …. I don’t sugarcoat, I don’t downplay or try to make things look or sound any better then they are …. So that is why it’s taken me awhile to post , because I believe for me, and my story , it’s not fiction and I’m not leaving out the s**t parts , and pretending It’s a fairytale… far from it . 🥹
