My goal is to understand your dog from his/her point of view and to understand what's going on in their world so we can better understand how to help. Clients call me for things from basic obedience to aggression issues and my goal is always the same: understand the dog, empower the owner. I've been self-taught and continue to learn. If I'm not teaching you what I already know, I'm in a course or

webinar or book to learn something new. My constant eagerness to learn has put me in a position to help so many people with their dogs. Whether you just got a new puppy, brought in a rescue dog, or have had a dog for a while but are now experiencing problems, I can help! On a personal note, my husband and I have fostered and/or adopted 26 dogs in the last 10 years and many of them have had behavioral or health problems we've resolved. While my husband isn't a large part of my business, I do ask him to be part of things occasionally as he brings a very calm energy to my work.

I have a HUGE soft spot for dogs in rescue - if you didn't already know that. ❤️🩷

Shelters have experienced their toughest year in a long time in 2024 and it doesn't appear that it's going to get better. If you've ever considered fostering, but think you could never do it because you couldn't give the dog up, you'd be surprised what you can do for a dog! Shelters aren't ideal for dogs. They are overcrowded, loud and stressful and while a dog can survive it, they often do much better inside a loving home.

We have fostered dogs since 2012 and it's SO rewarding. We act as the transition space for them as they decompress from a stressful situation and get used to life in a home. Sometimes they've been in a home before, sometimes not. But we're here for all of it. It's sometimes challenging, but we are never without support. We've had temporary visitors overnight and for up to 8 months so far. Out of the 30 we have rescued, 5 of those ended up being our own dogs, though not all at once.

Please consider fostering and if you need more information, please don't hesitate to ask!

Let's talk MUSHROOMS!

Lion's Mane is a power mushroom with amazing healing properties. It's known for supporting brain health and nerve function. When taken as a regular supplement it can slow and protect against cognitive decline. It's anti-inflammatory and has antioxidant properties, too. It supports the immune system, the digestive system and may help reduce anxiety.

I've included information in these images that pertain to dogs AND humans. For example, Lion's Mane has been used for people with multiple sclerosis. That is a human autoimmune disease and dogs do not have MS.

Combined with a daily dose of CBD, Lion's Mane provides extra support for stress and cognitive health.

I recommend Standard Process for dogs to get the full benefits of mushrooms, which can be purchased from Creature Comforts in Burlington, Wis: https://creaturecomforts.standardprocess.com/products/mushroom-complex?partNo=A3060

(I am not paid for this recommendation.)

What are you getting your dog(s) for Christmas? (Don't worry, I won't spill the beans!)

What do our dogs want for Christmas? Maybe it’s not a new chew toy or dog bed—maybe it’s for us to be more clear, more patient, less . . . Read more about these thoughts in this week’s blog post, and please, please, add to the list! (No fair listing chicken or dried liver!)

It's been great having expanded hours for much of 2024, but due to another opportunity, I need to scale back my training hours to weekends again.

Starting January 4, I'll have training openings on Saturdays and Sundays again with emergency appointments on weeknights.

Bird songs naturally put my dog Rosco to sleep. They are a very calming sound. If you need your dog to relax, particularly during the holiday hustle and bustle, give it a try in a quiet room!

Help me find the best Christmas gift for Tyler, the beagle mix. She's looking for a home that has another dog (or dogs) and even kids. She's great with cats, too. She has a wonderful temperament and she's what I call a "middle of the pack dog." She's happy to follow others, but can be independent as well. She has some low-level anxiety around new things, but most dogs do.

She likes to play fetch with a ball, but needs a little guidance on how to bring it back (Hint: treats help!). She reads energy of other animals and people very well, which makes her the perfect companion.

When I assessed her, I said she'd be GREAT at agility and nose work, but those aren't necessarily requirements for her adopters.

She came in as a stray from Kentucky to Common Ground CRN and lived with the wrong family for a while. So she's now looking for that right one to scoop her up and love on her the rest of her life!

Is that you or someone you know?

Turn everyday play into physically draining activity.

How?

Add in a few minutes of brain work when you play with your dog.

Stop a game of tug to ask your dog to place himself on a bed and stay.

Interrupt a game of fetch with a sit and paw shake.

Include several interruptions during play and it will drain their energy faster.

Dogs can see hues of blues and yellows. Everything else? Not so much. Green toys in the grass blend in pretty well.

My Story

COVID-19 UPDATE: In-person training will resume on a limited basis on September 1. Restrictions to my in-person training found here: https://rebeccachart.wixsite.com/luckydogbt/single-post/2020/05/11/Opening-in-June---with-restrictions

I am a dog trainer with more than 15 years of experience working with all breeds of dog. I specialize in fear and anxiety in rescue dogs, but I serve all dogs with all unwanted behaviors. My service area includes locations within 30-40 minutes of Genoa City, Wis. That includes municipalities in Kenosha, Walworth, McHenry counties as well as some of the edges of Waukesha, Racine and Lake counties.

I help dogs and empower people. Maybe you have an excessive barker or a misbehaving jumper. Or maybe your dog shows signs of aggression toward other dogs or guards its food. I can help with these things and help you understand your dog!

I have 5 years of formal education training and behavior consultation through classes offered by the CCPDT, ADPT, Dr. Patricia McConnell, Dr. Ian Dunbar, and The Victoria Stillwell Academy, and Susan Garrett, among others. I am working toward a certification.
