September 6th is National Read A Book Day. Birdie has been working hard on her reading skills to be the best reader at Polk County Animal Control. Birdie wants to be adopted so bad she is sharpening her skills to stand out from the rest.
Help Birdie find a home on National Read a Book day.
Birdie came to the shelter on August 8th when she was found as a stray. Birdie is a Bulldog mix. If you are interested in adopting Birdie, please visit her between 10am-4pm. We are located at 7115 Decastro Rd. in Winter Haven.

Today is the last day of Clear the Shelters. Since August 1st, Polk County Animal Control has adopted 172 cats to new owners and 182 to rescues. We have adopted 171 dogs to new owners and 59 to rescues. This brings us to 584 cats and dogs adopted!

Help us reach 600 adopted animals by the end of today! We are open today from 10am -4pm for adoptions. All adoptions include spay/neuter, vaccinations, County license, and a FREE good bag for participating in

FOSTERS? POLK COUNTY BULLY PROJECT!!

DESPERATELY SEEKING HIGH ENERGY FOSTER: Dante is losing his 🤯 in here. It’s so hard to see. He just sits in his kennel and bounces up and down on his two front paws. Where does all of this angst come from? Living in a crate on a front porch for the first year of your life with no love, attention, or playtime will do that to a guy.

Our trainer said he needs extreme exercise because his anxiety is so high. A runner who could take him out a couple of times a day would be ideal.
A hiker or active family would work too. He just needs to be worn out!

He’s a good boy & the best cuddle bug, too! His first foster family
❤️❤️❤️’s him, but their cat was not a fan, so they had to return him. They still come and have play dates with him because they miss him so much.

Fast facts: male; 1.5 years old; dislikes cats; loves children (older ones probably best with his level of excitement); likes the lady dogs- iffy on some males.

I am an old soul. I just want to be by your feet and watch TV with you. I love to go on short walks and I'm very good on leash. My favorite mornings would be taking an early morning walk, coming home to the air conditioner, taking a nap and having breakfast with you. I am NOT high maintenance and I have a very easy coat to care for. I take treats very gently, just ask the kennel staff. They know what a good boy I am.

PET OF THE WEEK!!!!

My name is Tiger, A0974429
I have been at Polk County Animal Control since December. I don't understand why people walk right by me. I even put my paws on the kennel door to get their attention.

I am fun loving, I walk great on leash and I know basic commands. I am very friendly with shelter staff, just ask them. I'm only around 2years old & I know I have a lot to learn but I learn quickly. Please help me find my forever home.

**** Update: the race is completed and we will be leaving to go back to Animal Control but it is still National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day!! ***** Did you know that today is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day? Come see us at the shelter for dog and cat adoptions or you can go to the Judd Jog that is also happening today. It started at 8AM and we are there with adoptable dogs! The adoptions are free.

Meet Gracie A1090985 black brindle and white Bulldog mix that came in 03/04/22 with an open wound around her neck from an embedded collar. The veterinarian says she is around 6 months old and she weighs 35 pounds. She seems to have had a rough start to her short life considering the scars she has. She is very sweet and loves attention. She is a very energetic little girl that jumps like a frog and runs after her toys but she stays quiet and calm in the kennel and is potty trained. She needs someone to give her a loving and pampered life.

Meet Floyd A1076817. He is a handsome hound of 5 years and about 50 pounds, He came to us as a stray and was found to have heartworms. He has been treated and is now ready to find his forever home. Heartworms are fatal if not treated and easily prevented. Please come and fall in love with Floyd and give him a happy ever after.
