Lily and Bean had such an amazing friendship! Since we started our sanctuary, our house cat Bean has met goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, and quail. He is so welcoming to every animal we bring home, he is so accepting! Often times the animals we bring to our sanctuary have a traumatic background of come kind, and having kind and welcoming animals like Bean here to greet them is amazing. Rabbits are amazing animals! I never thought I would enjoy having a pet rabbit until we rescued Lawrence the rabbit almost two years ago. Lawrence is now a part of our family and we can’t imagine life without him! Rabbits are clean, quiet, and loving pets. They have such a relaxing energy. Meet Mel, our curious, friendly and spunky little rescued calf! Mel and his brother Winston are survivors of the dairy industry. They were rescued and brought to our sanctuary a few weeks ago. They have been settling into their new forever home with us, and we have been able to see their unique personalities shine! Mel is so silly, playful and loving. He loves everyone he meets. He is full of life and joy, and we love having him here with us! Yesterday Mel got to explore a brand new pasture! He had so much fun running, jumping and playing in the sunshine. I think all the animals (including Mel) are glad that the freezing temperatures are over! He loved playing in the sunshine and exploring new smells outside. Seeing him happy makes my heart happy. Many of you have asked how Mel is doing without his friend Winston, and while he seems ok, we know he is missing his friend. We don’t want him to grow up alone, so over the next few months we are going to be searching for another cow/calf in need of rescue. Cows are very social animals, and he will definitely benefit from having someone to play with and love. Sonny and Stanley have made so much progress over the last few months! When they first arrived at our sanctuary they were in rough shape. They were skinny, dirty, and injured. Stanley had a terribly bent neck. Now several months later, it’s hard to believe just how healthy and happy they look! I’m so happy that they were able to come to our sanctuary to get the love and care they desperately needed. Sadly, the side effects from the middle ear surgery were severe for Marbles. We had to transfer her to the emergency hospital for observation for a few days in hopes that she would eventually regain her balance and coordination. There was a big chance of this happening due to the nature of the surgery, but even though we’re not surprised, it still breaks our hearts.
