Just wanted to wish everyone a very happy COURTHOUSE CAT DAY! It's true, so go outside and chase a bunny (not really) and make a toast. Mayor Donohue presented our family with a Proclamation at the tonight's township meeting stating Courtie as the "unofficial" mayor of Middle Township and proclaimed October 18, 2021 as Courthouse Cat Day at Middle Township! Kind words and funny Courtie stories were shared. Seriously, we are blessed to live in such a wonderful community with such amazing people - thank you, Mayor Donohue and everyone else in Courtie's crew!

Courtie passed peacefully away on Friday, October 15 at Ocean View Veterinary Hospital. My son Evan and I stayed with him the whole time. Our boy is gone, survived by his sister Roxy (Roxborough) who tends to stay out of the limelight. We had our guy for 10 years - Christmas Eve 2011 when I was pregnant with my third son. When picking out our cats at the shelter at Crest Haven, I went to every cage and opened it up to see how friendly the cats were. After all, they would have to put up with three little boys. Courtie (named "Butchie" by the shelter) and his sister were growing out of kittenhood. He was more of a teenager in cat years. He immediately leaped out of his cage that he shared with his siblings and wrapped his "arms" around my neck. I carried him around the shelter and he was so content. Plus he had that beautiful white mustache. He was ready to go home.

He shared his home with his friends at the municipal building across the street and I often came in to pay my sewer bill to find him behind the glass. They were all his best friends. He loved Calvin next door. I knew if I couldn't find him at night that he was over Calvin's house, getting nice and fat. He was one of a kind and will be so missed... With a heavy heart I'm going to ask everyone to say their goodbyes to our CourtHouse. He has an aggressive cancer under his tongue so you might see him around town with food on his face. He can't groom himself anymore. We're keeping him comfortable, on pain medicine and allowing him to do pretty much whatever he wants. He's walking around town, being the mayor and surveying his domain before it's time. I'm trying to decide when it's time for him to officially go. It's so hard, because he still seems happy, jumps on furniture and chases bunnies. The vet said we'll know when it's time.

I heard some questions below concerning where Courtie has been. Currently, he’s laying on my bed, on my gas bill. His favorite spot in our house is on my bed or under my younger two sons’ bunk bed. We have some news. Today we picked him up from the kind staff at Ocean View Veterinary Hospital after 2 nights of blood tests and an ultrasound. We took him because he was losing weight, which is unusual for our giant cat. They found he had fluid in his belly and that he was jaundice. His liver levels are high. It’s not diabetes and they don’t think it’s pancreatitis because his abdomen is not in pain. They suspect cancer and believe his days are numbered. He’s taking appetite stimulants, antibiotics and steroids to improve his quality of life. He’s in the house for 5 days. Then he’ll probably go out, but when he does, we’ll have to walk him on a leash or something. Our hearts are breaking. We love him so much. Send your prayers for Courtie.

It's with great sadness that Courtie says goodbye to his good friend Connie Mahon as she leaves our township as business administrator for new opportunities. She will definitely be missed because of the stellar job she did for our community and because of her kindness and love for the little furry cat who visited her office everyday. We know that she'll knock it out of the park in Wildwood Crest! Good luck, Connie!!!

CourtHouse and Roxy now have cousins! This has been a long anticipated event since their little Brooklyn street cat Oliver has gone. The heartbreak is getting better... Enough so that my sister and her husband have adopted from Crest Haven this weekend! They are a brother and sister duo and growing out of kitten-hood just like Courtie and Roxy were when they were adopted. We think their names are going to be Frank and Winnie and they love their new home in historic Dennisville. Adopt a cat or dog at your local shelter today!

Courtie may look a little greasy today. I put salmon oil on him and Roxy. It's supposed to help their coat. Courtie especially has dander in his fur. He's supposed to lick it off and ingest it as well so those omega 3s will help his coat that way too. It's been a couple of days and Roxy is looking good and licked hers off, but not Courtie. I was watching him yesterday in the driveway and he can't reach his back by his tail. When he tries to clean himself he just rolls over like a little bowling ball!

Courtie is doing much better today! Both cats slept on my sister's bed last night. She woke up in the middle of the night because she heard a loud 'thump'. It was Courtie attempting to jump up on the bed! It took a few tries, but he made it. This morning both cats filled up the litter boxes then face timed the boys.
