People have asked why we post so much asking for donations and my response is:
Rescues generally run smoothly with donations coming in regularly and we are no exception to that rule. We are at a disadvantage being labeled a private rescue, which was not by choice. We are a 501c3 nonprofit rescue and we are not eligible for donations from large corporations like Walmart, Coke, Sam’s Club, and so on, because we are labeled private. We have very few people that donate but they are our saviors and keep our heads above water enough that we’re still breathing. When I say we desperately need donations, it’s not for dramatic effect, we truly do need the support. No one goes into reacue thinking that they’re going to fail, not going to have the support from so many that promised it, or thinking that they are going to go broke because they have to use so much out of pocket that they can’t even pay their own bills. I have an $800 electric bill already from the heat going constantly and the space heaters going when the ductless system can’t keep up with the cold temps. The heat doesn’t really stay in the house that great because we need insulation and new siding that isn’t falling off. The cabinets are basically rusting away because of the moisture coming up from the basement, the kitchen floor is shot and I have almost all the stuff to replace it but can’t get the last few things.
The cats and dogs get their food, litter, meds, and vet care before anything else here. They aren’t disposable, they can’t just get tossed out because things are hard for us. I’m keeping my commitment to them and I love each and every one of them.
We ask for donations so much because we truly need them for the rescue babies. We need them so that we can take care of the necessities. No donation is too small. We are grateful for all donations and support. Thank you and I hope you all have a blessed holiday.
