So proud to work with this amazing organization!

WE DID IT! This year, we had a goal to reach 5,000 spay and neuter surgeries, and we did it! The year hasn't ended and we have more days left, but we wanted to share our stats so far for 2023, so you can see your donations and support in action:

Total Spay Neuter Surgery: 5020
Rescue Partner Surgery: 1643 Faithful Friends Pet Rescue and Rehoming is our biggest partner here but we are grateful to work with several groups.
Free to Client, Subsidized by Partner: 204 sponsored thru Rapscallion to the Rescue Inc. Fix Them All, LEASH
Free to Client, Subsidized by VOCAL: 593 Thank you Florida Animal Friend Cathy D. Perry Estate, and our donors to our Fix the Future Fund for making this possible.
Free to Caretaker, mostly Trapped by our TNR team: 665 (169 CATT Marion) We use any leftover warehouse fees from our rescue partners and our Fix the Future Fund to benefit the whole community!
Public TNR Clients: 356
Regular Pay, Public Clients: 1559

So what does all of these numbers really mean?
#1 Over 2/3s of spay neuter surgery done at our clinic is offered at a reduced or free cost. Over 1/3 is totally free
#2 Teamwork makes the dream work! We are so grateful for our rescue partners and the animal welfare nonprofits who have helped us make such an impact in Marion County.
#3 Donations MATTER. These numbers are donations at work! We are on a mission to solve the homeless pet problem, and with your help, we can achieve our goals.

Kittens have an amazing ability to heal when they have broken bones! Depending on the fracture site, many can heal with just cage rest. Peep had a broken leg and was rested for 3 weeks, and look at her now! She will be available for adoption through Faithful Friends Pet Rescue and Rehoming. 💕

A lot of folks wonder when is the best time to spay or neuter their pet. There is a lot of confusion, but the attached article by Dr. Philip Bushby may shed some light on the subject.

Ovarian remnant syndrome. This is a complication of spay surgery where a piece of the o***y remains inside because of incomplete removal. Most owners won’t notice until much later, when their pet comes into heat after being spayed.
This is what happened to this sweet girl. She was spayed in March of 2022, but recently showed signs of being in heat. Removal of the remnant today was successful!

We are so excited for this upcoming fundraiser!

Rock N Roll Sushi is opening a new location in Gainesville in Butler Plaza (very close to PetSmart) and has asked Faithful Friends to partner with them for their "soft opening" on Saturday January 21st. From 5pm-8:30pm on Saturday January 21st, diners will be asked to make a donation to Faithful Friends in lieu of payment for their meal. We will have puppies on the patio and a few FFPRR volunteers inside the restaurant to talk about our rescue.

So how can you help make this a success?

1. Come eat! - Follow the link: https://reservations.getwisely.com/rnr-sushi-butler-plaza and make a reservation ONLY between the hours of 5pm - 8:30pm on Saturday January 21st. You'll come to Rock N'Roll Sushi, enjoy some food, and donate towards the rescue instead of paying a regular bill.
2. Share the event! The more people we have show up, the more funds we will raise to help us continue to save lives this year!

Happy reunion to Momo and his owner, Tahlia! 😻♥️🙌

One of our TNR volunteers did what she does best when she sees a stray cat - she trapped it and took it in to our clinic. Usually our trapper, Amanda, is at one of our TNR recipients’ property trapping. However, this time the stray cat (who we now know as Momo) was hiding under her shed in her yard. The stray at been there a week and she was finally able to trap him. Upon examination at our clinic we immediately realized he had a microchip after scanning him. We called his owner right away and she was delighted to hear Momo was safe. Momo and his brother, Bubbles, had accidentally gotten out of their house about a week ago. Bubbles found his way home, but Momo got lost and found himself hiding under Amanda’s shed.

Great job Amanda and clinic staff for reuniting Momo & Tahlia. Thank you Tahlia for microchipping your cat and registering the chip with your information.

For only $20 you can microchip your animal at our clinic and have the peace of mind knowing if your pet ever got lost, your information would be attached to them. Contact our clinic today to schedule your microchipping appointment: 352-289-0800.

This is an almost-ready-to-hatch egg (nit) of a chewing louse. Lice are a pretty uncommon finding in dogs and cats, but this cat was a stray that the owner only recently adopted. He brought her in to the St. Francis Pet Care clinic for “being itchy”. On examination she had small dandruff-like debris stuck to the hair shafts. A few hairs were plucked and voila!
She is being treated with Revolution and daily combing at home to remove the nits.

20/07/2021

I have been thinking a lot about minimally invasive surgery these days. For those of you who are not familiar with this type of surgery, it started in human medicine with the use of laparoscopes and arthroscopes to perform surgery using very small incision(s). Think gall bladder removal, appendix removal, and knee surgery in humans.
The trend is now hitting veterinary medicine with a number of procedures being performed using a laparoscope, including spays.
As I looked at one of my spay incisions today after the surgery was finished, I thought to myself that HQHVSN (high quality, high volume spay neuter) vets are the original minimally invasive surgeons! 😷🐈🦮🐾
