The holidays are a time for celebrating with family and friends, but it’s also prime time for ER trips to the vet. Before you sit down to that delicious Thanksgiving meal consider withholding the feast from your 4-legged friend.

Fatty foods produce GI upset and pancreatitis.
Be prepared to spend $500-$2,000 at the vet to diagnose and treat GI issues

Bones can cause obstructions and cooked bones can perforate the bowels. Be prepared to spend $1,00-$10,000 at the vet for obstruction or perforation issues.

If you suspect your dog has eaten something potentially harmful or poisonous for them you may want to call the Poison Control hotline at (855) 764-7661 before heading to the ER with them. There is a fee to call for advice so be prepared for that.

Jet just completed a Board & Train program with me and I have to admit I'm pretty sad about it. As a trainer I have the privilege of working with many dogs (and owners) and sometimes certain dogs really imprint on your heart. For me, Jet was one of those dogs.

Jet came in on two wheels pulling the leash, alert to everything, reactive to anything that moved (and even some things that didn't), and despite a ton of effort from his fur-family, he couldn't hold a static position for anything. He went home Sunday a changed man. Walking poliety on (and off) leash, fabulous recall and the ability to chill in the home amongst the chaos of normal family life with kiddos. Now it's his families turn to take the reins. My heart is full and I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of his journey.

If you are looking for help to make a dog training transformation, please message me anytime. I love the process and because of that, the outcomes are just the icing on the cake.

I work a lot with fearful dogs and despite my own desires to motivate through play and food, sometimes the only thing that a dog will respond to in the beginning of the process is a solid sense of safety and security. George is a rescued 2yr old Golden Retriever. He was brought up in a home who didn’t make time for him to experience life outside of their backyard. His new owner is working hard to change that for him. He is activated by dogs, people, and moving objects alike and is also insecure about sharing his personal space. These brief passes may not look like much, but for him and his new mama, it’s a big deal because he was able to perform them while walking past 4 fence reactive dogs just a few feet away. We have more work to do, but he is coming along nicely.

Scotch loves every meal. He has a very sensitive GI Tract so he has a specific supplement routine that his mom has to follow which allows him ample time to prepare his happy dance.

What do a Bossy Cattle Dog, a Reactive Doberman, a Silly (sometimes stubborn) Shiba Inu and a few Distracted Doodles have in common?! Group Class!! Can You Proof It?! Group Class kicked off this morning. My group classes are NOT for teaching basic obedience. Rather it’s for proofing the obedience skills our dog already knows. DM me if you’d like to join us in our next class.

We love what we do.

My name is Heather Thomas and I have been working with and training dogs since I was 15. Anyone who knows me will say I am absolutely, positively, crazy, in LOVE with dogs! This love for dogs and helping others led me to take the leap and open the Long Dog Inn in the summer of 2019. What an amazing journey the past few months have been! I could not imagine the joy of caring for other’s dogs would bring to me and my family, but here I am living my best life.

What’s next? While I may not be in a place to provide training services full-time, I am fortunate to be surrounded by a wonderful dog training community that allows me to continue my training pursuits in hopes that someday that dream would become a reality. For now, I enjoy teaching new tricks and reinforcing obedience skills to my current clients while they stay with me.
