AKC Rescue Network Trying to raise awareness in order to get more dogs across the country into loving homes.

A large reason why there is such a large amount of dogs without homes is because people will adopt dogs that they can not keep. The top three reasons this happens is because of a lifestyle change, the dog not being the right breed for them, or a lack of time to spend with the dog. Obviously changes happen in your life, but you should still make sure to try to make sure you will be able to stick with a dog that you adopt. The best ways to do this include:

Waiting until after big life changes to adopt a pet

Do plenty of research to make sure you are getting the right dog for you

Ensure you have enough time every day to adequately care for your dog

The organizations that have been highlighted along with the other ones that can be found on the site have many hard working and committed members. The majority of these groups have at least 10 members and of these members 77% of them have been involved for over a decade! These clubs also will put a lot of money towards reaching their goals. A third of these groups put up over $10,000 a year.

In order for these organizations to be sustainable they need volunteers and donations. Joining any of these groups or donating to them goes a long way to help a struggling dog find a home.

Another great organization that we will shoutout is the Northeast Coonhound Rescue. This is a group based out of Massachusetts that places dogs into foster homes and then relocates those dogs into permanent homes. There are many ways you can help out this organization including donating, volunteering, fostering, or adopting dogs through this group.

You can find their website through the link below

We are a foster-based rescue.  We do not have a building or a shelter.  Our dogs are kept in foster homes throughout New England, but mostly in the Greater Boston area.  We arrange visits with the dogs for approved applicants.

Meet George, he has a very sad story in which he was abused and abandoned as a puppy which led to him having trust issues with most people. This created a difficult situation for him to find a new home and family. However, through a lot of time and love he was able to be accepted into a new family that he learned to trust and accept.

If you can't adopt a pet you can still help out. 40% of dogs are found by their owner through word of mouth. So just by spreading the word and letting friends and family know about local rescue organizations you can help find a dog a home. There are millions of dogs out there still looking for a home, and it will take all of us to help them.

Meet Miley! She is another example of a rescue dog that went through rough times as a puppy having lots of health problems and not much support. Miley now lives with a loving family who takes care of her and makes sure she is healthy and warm when out in the snow 🧣

To highlight one of the organizations that works with is the American German Shepherd rescue organization. Their goal is to help rescue German Shepherds, rehabilitate those who have suffered, and then find them new homes. To help this organization you can use their resources to find a pet to adopt or you can donate to their cause.

Dog homelessness is a huge problem in the United States. Approximately 3.9 million dogs enter shelters every year. Many of these dogs will not find a new home and can be put down due to overcrowded shelters.

Our mission is to reduce these numbers by spreading awareness in order to increase foster home volunteers, donations to organizations that help solve this issue, and the amount of people who adopt a dog.

This is Stella, she came from a very rough situation with an abusive owner. Fortunately, she was able to be rescued and adopted by a loving family that brings a smile to her snout 🐶

She now enjoys going for car rides and walks in the park. Stella is just one of many examples of the good you can do by adopting.
