Meet Bernie who was referred to Blaise after he suddenly lost the use of all of his legs. He was diagnosed with an intervertebral disc extrusion (slipped disc) in his neck.
Initially medical treatment was started, but Bernie got worse and lost the strength of his chest muscles meaning he was unable to fully expand his chest with each breath.
He had spinal surgery performed by the neurology service and then recovered in the ICU where we were able to mechanically assist his breathing by ventilating him via a tracheostomy tube (a tube inserted into his windpipe).
Bernie showed improvement every day and was able to come off the ventilator after 3 days under the care of the emergency service. He then remained hospitalised for physiotherapy and supportive care.
Bernie made incredible improvements each day and after two weeks of combined efforts by the neurology, emergency, and nursing teams, Bernie walked out of the hospital with his owners. We are thrilled with Bernie's improvement and anticipate he will make a full recovery back to his normal playful self.

Meet Bear, a 4 month old German Shepherd. Bear was recently referred to our Cardiology service following a previously diagnosed heart murmur and intermittent exercise intolerance.
After some investigations, Bear had to undergo surgery to reduce the risk of life-threatening complications.
Bear has now been discharged from Cardiology and is expected to enjoy a long and happy life. ❤️ #WeAreBlaise
