Babysitters Club update #4: Touchy Troubles

Buttercup is our biggest challenge 😅 All of the kittens are gentle and easy to handle but this boy is definitely the most averse of the bunch. He enjoys pets while he’s sleepy but he’s still quite skittish and is prone to hiding and darting when we’re around. That said, we’ve gotten a good number of purrs out of him and we’re hopeful that the comfort and trust of his sisters will help ease us into his heart 🌼💛

Boots has always been really good about accepting touches but she remains fairly timid. She’s been getting better about being out and about and not running away when we’re moving, and she’s tucked away less and less. We look forward to breaking Boots out of her shell and showing her how great some love and attention can be 🥾💚

Babysitters Club update #1: A Fast Friend

Spook warmed up to us really quickly 👻🖤 She has now become an absolute fiend - the minute we come into the room, she’s trotting over for pets and won’t leave us alone until we finally leave. Spook is a sweetheart and we love to hear her happy purrs when she sees us 🖤🥰

From one cat to another 😽❤️

All of our own cats have an aversion to kittens - anytime they see or smell them, they’re not too happy about it 😅 But KitKat got curious and was allowed a supervised wander into the foster room.

The change in the kittens was immediate: they came out of their hiding places, purring and ready to play. Because of KitKat’s presence, they all felt safe enough to eat and use the litter boxes in front of us! We’ve been bringing her in for short visits (where she sits on the window sill to observe the kittens in a place they can’t get to her 😂) to allow the kittens a time to feel comfortable while we interact with them. Although they came from another foster, it’s still amazing the progress they’ve made with us in just a few days! 🥰💕

The Vending Machine is out of stock! 🎉

Last weekend, Fig Newton and Ritz Bits went to an adoption fair and Chex Mix and Pop Tart went to a rescue, and we are pleased to announce that they’ve all been adopted! All these little “snacks” were so sweet and were happy they’re now with loving families 💕

Body art 🎨

It might be hard to see (because these boys get wiggly) but that mark on Fig Newton’s shaved belly is a tiny tattoo. Some clinics will give a small tattoo to any fixed cats to signify that they’ve been fixed. This is especially helpful for female cats that don’t otherwise have an easy way to identify that they’ve been fixed, outside of a fixed ear (which generally only happens with TNR cats). Therefore, if a cat gets lost and is found again, it’s easy to know that they’ve already been fixed without having to open them up again!

Even though these boys will be going to forever homes, they’re still sporting these tiny tattoos 😎

Kitty quirks 😸🐁🎾

Chex Mix gets very possessive of his desecrated mouse toy. When this happens, it’s common to hear him growl and hide his toy from the others. What a good little hunter! 😼

The boys are off the be fixed!

Ritz Bits is a cryptorchid so he’ll have the same procedure that Wisp had - big surgery for small boys. The other three will have the normal procedure and then they’re all back here for recovery. (And hopefully not TOO much playtime 😅)

Your love…it hurts… (Let’s fix that) ❤️‍🩹😿✂️

Kittens are so gosh dang cute right? They’re excitable and curious which can definitely lead to climbing - sometimes up legs or backs. But their affection can start to leave it’s mark…in the form of many (many) incidental scratches 😅

One of the things we do with the kittens we foster is get them used to their paws being touched. This is an important step in helping them be comfortable with, later on, having their nails trimmed. We don’t usually trim their nails at this age but, believe us, it was warranted this time 🥲

Getting cats used to their paws being touched and handled, as well as acquainting them with the trimming scissors, can make the whole process quick and easy for all involved! 😽
