From my furry family members to yours, may your day be filled with food, laughter & thankfulness for the year past & the year ahead! ๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿฅ•๐ŸŒฝ๐Ÿ—๐Ÿฅง๐Ÿฆƒ

Set up & ready to go this afternoon in Tom Bean from 3-7pm. The weather is great! ๐ŸŒž

**WALK-UP VETERINARY SERVICES**
Schedule for the rest of 2025:
- Thursday, November 20th from 2-6pm:rescheduled to 11/22/25 from 3-7pm!
- Thursday, December 4th from 2-6pm
- Thursday, December 18th from 2-6pm

๐Ÿ”ธ๏ธ๐Ÿ“Location: 126 Britton Street, Tom Bean, Tx.
A white dodge truck & gray/black trailer will be set up on the corner across from the bank & city hall. There will also be a pink canopy.

๐Ÿ”ธ๏ธ๐Ÿ•‘ **TIME**: 2-6pm. For now, this will be walk-up only & no appointment necessary.

๐Ÿ”ธ๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฅ Please ensure that your pets are safely & effectively secured with properly fitting collars, leashes, crates, etc. ***THERE IS NO BUILDING, so you & your pet will be outdoors unless I am working on them in the trailer. Lubbers Mixed Animal Veterinary Services is not responsible for loose animals. It is your (the animal owners) responsibility to ensure that you can control your pet in a safe, effective & responsible manner.***

๐Ÿ”ถ๏ธโ€ผ๏ธThis IS NOT the discounted vaccines clinics that are offered - there is a circulating schedule for those (the last 2 of 2025 will be the 4th & 5th of October.) Walk-up veterinary services (including exams, vaccines, treatments, medications, etc.) are full price. This is an opportunity to walk up, with no appointment & 'skip' the mobile aspect by there being no trip/service fee, as well as no scheduling hassle.

๐Ÿ”ธ๐Ÿ›ป ๏ธPlease be respectful when parking & courteous to the fact that we are in a small, downtown area.

๐Ÿ”ธ๏ธ๐Ÿ Livestock: again, there is no building or cattle working facilities. If you have well behaved small livestock (goats, sheep, etc), well behaved & stands on a halter equine or well behaved show stock -- then there is a possibility they can also be seen in your trailer. **Just please call first & we can discuss**โ˜Ž๏ธโ€ผ๏ธ

๐Ÿ”ธ๏ธ๐Ÿฉบ No surgeries will be performed on Thursdays or on a walk-up basis. I am not able to run in-house lab work (very limited). If your pet is urgent or critical, this walk-up opportunity is not the best option for your pet. While the veterinary services I will be able to provide include a wide range of diagnostics, treatments & medications, I still care that your critical pet be seen in a brick & mortar facility. If you are unsure, the best thing to do would be to give me a call before heading over. โ˜Ž๏ธ

Looking forward to this new venture! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿงก

โ›ˆ๏ธ I don't call things off due to the weather very often, but the forecast is not looking great tomorrow for the walk-up clinic! I don't think my canopy & the trailer door will make it through any thunderstorms, along with the tracks the truck/trailer would make on the grass lot if it rains enough.

โ€ผ๏ธWalk up clinic on 11/20/25 is cancelled, but I'm rescheduling to Saturday 11/22/25 from 3-7pm!โ€ผ๏ธ

What is Equine Herpesvirus (EHV)?

You've probably heard it called Rhinopneumonitis, a respiratory tract disease that results in "snotty noses," but EHV is more than that. Depending on the strain, this virus can also cause abortion in broodmares, and equine herpesvirus myeloencephalopathy (EHM) โ€” the often-deadly neurologic form of the disease.

Because EHV is endemic in many equine populations, most mature horses have developed some immunity through repeated natural infection. However, they remain a source of infection for other susceptible horses, like weaned foals and yearlings, who usually display symptoms of the respiratory form of the disease in autumn and winter. Performance and show horses are also more vulnerable to the disease, as they commingle with unfamiliar equines in close quarters while under stress from travel and competition.

Proper biosecurity protocols can help reduce EHV outbreaks and other disease transmission. A variety of vaccines are also available for protection against both the respiratory and abortive form of the disease, but there is no equine licensed vaccine at this time that has a label claim for protection against the neurologic form (EHM).

Consult your primary equine veterinarian to learn more about this disease and work with them to determine the optimal vaccine protocol for your horses.

You can learn more about all three forms on the Equine Disease Communication Center's website here: https://equinediseasecc.org/infectious-diseases
