I have made similar posts in the past, but I feel that sometimes the message does not always go through, for a variety of reasons.

❗Please read until the end – this post is about neutering/spaying/fixing your rabbits.❗

I am a huge believer in getting your rabbits neutered, and there is a very small list of reasons why you should NOT get your rabbits neutered:

• Your rabbit is sick
• Your rabbit is very old (and not strong enough for surgery)

On the other hand, the below is a list of reasons as to why you SHOULD neuter your bunny:

• Less territorial behavior
• Less risks of cancer
• Easier to bond with other rabbits

From my previous related neutering posts until today, I have rescued countless numbers of rabbits, of all ages, sizes and genders.

All rabbits which have come through me have gotten neutered prior to being rehomed. And the amount of diseases, sicknesses, tumours and cysts that were found during neutering surgeries is overwhelming.

Females have an 85% chance of getting cancer if left unspayed. If you do not believe me, just look it up online – it’s a well known fact. Rabbits are at risk of developing cysts and all kinds of cancer in the ovaries, uterus, fallopian tube. And not just females – even male rabbits can get testicular cancer.

The biggest question I often get from my clients or random people is: “But what if my rabbit dies during surgery?” Yes, it is a risk. Like with any surgeries, with any animal (including humans), an animal can pass during surgery.

So how can you feel more re-assured about neutering your rabbit?

• Speak to a rabbit savvy vet. Let the vet explain the procedure to you, and guide you accordingly
• Ask for a pre-op. If you’re worried that your rabbit might be too old or potentially not strong enough for surgery, you can ask your vet for a blood test. Again, the vet will guide you accordingly with the best way forward
• Remember that you are doing this while keeping your rabbit’s health as a priority.

Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or queries in relation to neutering, I’ll be more than happy to share my personal experiences.

I also take this opportunity to thank Dr. Steven Mercieca for his patience and dedication to the numerous rabbits which I bring to him 🐰🙏🏻

Dear all,

I am attaching an updated price list, along with a list of the services which I am currently offering.

As you can see from the services, I am now also offering rabbit bonding :) Rabbits bond easier when they are in a neutral space, therefore if you're planning on traveling and leaving your rabbits with me perhaps, I can offer rabbit bonding services for the duration of their stay.

As usual, please do not hesitate to get in touch for additional information 😁

It has been a while since I have made a “Fun Fact” post about rabbits, so here goes 😊

We all know the expression “breeding like rabbits”, which is used mainly to indicate the rate at which rabbits can breed and have kits (putting it in simple English – rabbits can have a lot of babies within a very short period of time).

So as most of you should know, the way that a human or animal will breed is through ovulation. A s***m needs to reach the egg in order for fertilization to occur.

With humans, ovulation occurs once a month, therefore there is a small window of opportunity for the s***m to reach the egg. With dogs, it works similarly – the dog ovulates around twice a year, and during that time a female dog can get pregnant, if she is mated with another dog.

With rabbits, it works differently. A rabbit has the ability to ovulate every time it has coitus with another male rabbit. Female rabbits have a neurohormonal reflex which is triggered whenever it engages in sexual activities with a male.

In simple terms, whenever a male will mount a female, she will ovulate. Which is why 99% of the time a female will get pregnant every time she is mated.
...Which is why people need to get their rabbits neutered 😊 I will be making a separate post on the pros of rabbit neutering and why it is ESSENTIAL to get your bunny neutered.

Hope you enjoyed this fun fact! I will be making an effort to post more fun facts or interesting information on rabbits 🐰

I could not bring myself to write this before, and to be honest I was so overwhelmed with new rescues, I barely had time to process everything.

My sweet, gorgeous, cuddly and friendliest fluffball Snuggles has passed away 💔

Snuggles was rescued last January from a meat breeder. From day 1, he was bloated, he had sludge and Pasteurella. After receiving treatment for Pasteurella and sludge, he improved, however he always remained bloated.

I tried a multitude of medication to no avail – his p**p was always large, smelly and his tummy always bloated.

Last Friday morning I noticed he was looking abnormally more bloated than his usual self and he refused food, therefore I started the usual GI stasis procedure of gas drops-tummy massages-pain killer and getting him to run around to get his tummy going again.
I stayed with him until 3am before going to sleep, with the intention of taking him to the vet on Saturday morning, however I found he had passed away.

I barely had time to process his passing, before I was contacted at 7am that a blind rabbit was rescued and was being brought to me.

Whilst I am so deeply saddened by his loss and I will miss him terribly, unfortunately there are so many abandoned and sick rabbits requiring help, that I simply must move on as I need to be strong for the other rabbits.

I currently have a paralysed rabbit who requires more attention than most rabbits + a blind rabbit requiring medication + another rabbit who is on and off medications every few months as she has intestinal issues. Plus my own rabbits and foster rabbits and cats 😞

RIP my sweet, sweet boy. Binky free in bunny heaven 💔😞

Oscar woke up with a bit of tummy ache this morning.

I already gave him tummy massages, gas drops and painkillers, but what he really wants and needs to feel better, are Lola's kisses 🥺

All cuteness aside, I am monitoring him to make sure he makes a full recovery. Stasis can be quite serious if not treated early, but luckily Oscar is already showing signs of recovery 🤞

Let's wish him a speedy recovery 🤒👩‍⚕️🐰

I wanted to make a quick post about a new potential fear, which I had read about in the past, but never experienced myself until today: rabbit choking.

This morning, like every morning I fed everyone their portion of pellets. Usually, after feeding pellets, I go around each and every rabbit (I have between 15-20 rabbits at my house at one go usually, therefore this takes some time) and top up their hay, replace water, do basic sweeping etc.

Whilst doing so, I suddenly heard Devon sneezing, and he made an awful grunting and choking noise while doing so.

When I went to check on him, I realized he was choking on a piece of pellet. His nose was full of liquid pellets – basically he choked on the food and inhaled it through his wind pipe. Rabbits are physically unable to throw up or breathe through their mouths, therefore when they choke, they try to emit the choked object through their nostrils.

I grabbed him and started doing the Heimlich maneuver on him. I had never done it before, and only saw pictures and videos on it, but I did my best. This is a good video illustration on how to attempt to do a Heimlich maneuver on a rabbit: https://rabbit.org/health/video-the-rabbit-heimlich-maneuver/

His breathing thankfully turned to normal pretty soon. I checked his lungs (I have a stethoscope for that) and confirmed they were clear.

I will be monitoring him and keeping an eye on him to make sure his breathing is still normal. After rabbits choke, rabbits may need antibiotics to prevent infection from aspiration.

I do not mean to panic anyone with my post, I simply want there to be awareness and knowledge so if it happens to your bunny, you can act quickly

As most of you know, apart from my own bunnies, I also rescue and foster the sanctuary's bunnies at times, especially when they need medication.

Rabbits are very delicate and sensitive, and often succumb to illnesses and diseases. So for me, there is no greater satisfaction than taking in a sick or injured bunny and seeing them heal and cured ❤️

I had recently taken in Chloe, who at initial stages appeared to only have a case of ear mites and an ulcer on her eye.

Fast forward a few weeks and she became skeletal, dehydrated and I was sure she was on death's doorstep.

I put her on a variety of medications, drips and probiotics and nothing seemed to work.

Finally, after starting her on a particular antibiotic, she started to heal 💗

Fast forward another few weeks and she's gained weight, her fur is softer and she's a sweet little cuddlebug who also made friends with another 2 rescues, Missy and Cookies 🍪

Is anyone able to foster a rabbit please?

We are currently full at the sanctuary, my house is full and the Malta Rabbit Club is unable to help too.

A girl has found the below rabbit and she cannot keep her. Please send me a msg or call 99830701 if you're in a position to help

Kindly note that apart from a couple of odd days here and there, I am full with rabbit sitting until mid-September.

A massive thank you goes to my clients for their trust 🙏

I highly recommend current and future clients to book ahead your sitting services to avoid disappointment. All rabbit sitting is done at my house under careful supervision, therefore I am limited to how many rabbits I can keep at one go.

Thank you

⚠️Important announcement ⚠️

To my esteemed grooming clients:

I am taking a short break from grooming and will be back starting the week of 17th June.

As most of you know, apart from my own rabbits, I also rescue and often foster rescue rabbits, which leaves me to little/no free time of my own.

Therefore, starting from the 17th June, the following changes will apply:

🔸Grooming clients from the South: I will no longer be doing home visits, but will start grooming at my own personal residence in Ghaxaq.

🔸Grooming clients from the central/north: I will be allocating 2 dates per month where I will be doing home visits (unless you prefer to bring your bunny over to Ghaxaq).

I urge my clients to book in advance to avoid delays in booking. I will also be making a separate post with updated prices accordingly.

Rabbit sitting services will resume as normal.

As always, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions 😊

Reaching out to my fellow followers and clients ⚠️⚠️⚠️

We are super full at the sanctuary (plus our houses) and we have no space for any more rescues.

We have received a message from a person who knows of a breeder who wants to get rid of the last 3 female rabbits he has, and unless someone takes them, he will either dump them in a valley or feed them to his dogs.

Please please please reach out if anyone can foster!! Even if you can foster just 1 rabbit, you will be helping us a lot by making space at the sanctuary!

If you are unable to foster (or even better adopt), please SHARE!

Thank you
