We got Earthworm's and Pinky's test results back! Both clear on all genetic diseases (we knew this already) and the color results are so exciting!

Pinky (the boy we are keeping) carries for cinnamon, and he is confirmed a mink, siamese + burmese (which we also knew lol).

Earthworm (the orange boy going to one of our best friends) carries for dilute, chocolate, and siamese CP!

I cannot wait to see both their babies down the road after they are grown and have all their physical health testing done.

Aja is due soon! She's been moved to the queening room and is getting settled in. 🥰

02/08/2022

Our priority this next year is retaining kittens for the future of our program. Eventually our goal is to specialize in orange variations with uncommon coloring in our tortie and calicos. So with this litter we knew we HAD to keep any tortie she had. When the litter was born we got a tortie and I thought thank goodness.

We had 3 "pink" colored kittens. There were only a few options of what these could be. One started to turn orange. We decided to retain him as well. What luck I thought. I couldn't believe it. As the other two started to color out, the female was looking brown mink, which was what I had suspected for BOTH of them. The male still didn't have a speck of color on him. All white is possible but highly unlikely with that pairing.

The client on the male was really really hoping for a darker kitten but didn't want to miss the opportunity for this little guy if he pointed out. But as time passed he didn't. At least not how we expected. He is a "flame point" aka orange mink. They have decided to wait for our next litter and we are retaining him for our program instead of the little orange guy. His genetics will help us get to our end goal much quicker. My little orange dude is pending going to one of my very best friends. 🥰

That leads us back to the girl. When I was bathing them the other night I noticed something odd on her nose. I thought to myself, no. No it's not possible. Well, it's definitely possible, just not probable. The girl is a "chocolate tortie point" aka a chocolate mink tortieshell. I was crushed. If I had known, we'd have kept her for the same reason we are keeping the flame point. The entire litter was orange. The odds are technically 50/50 on orange but it never works out like a punnet square dictates.

So we contacted the client contracted for her to see if there was anyway they would be willing to let us retain her, knowing if not we would lose her, understandably as they had gotten attached over pictures and video. Since they are local we allowed them to come by and meet the kitties. After meeting the tortie point and the little black tortie, they fell in love with the black tortie and we switched. Win/Win.

I am thrilled. 🥰

We are changing a few of our policies to better suit our cattery. From now on, we will no longer be offering any kittens we are unsure of on color, until we either run testing or are positive. We have had a few clients back out on kittens over the last year because the color wasn't what they wanted, and recently we may have lost the opportunity for retention on a kitten with genetics we have been waiting for since we started our program.

Our goal has always been to put our clients first and try to make sure everyone is happy and gets a kitten quickly. Our wait list has grown tremendously and the second we have kittens born I am bombarded with messages. Now that we are at a point of needing to retain, it has gotten even more difficult. Some of the genes we are waiting for cannot be tested for. You have to visibly identify them, and the lack of hair makes that even more difficult.

We need to put our cattery first at this point to ensure we can continue it. Over the next year we HAVE to retain some kittens so our current Queens can be retired. We are no longer interested in working with people that do not understand that.

These aren't just kittens and I do not do this for the money, because after taxes and expenses, it is almost not worth it. I do this because I love these cats and this breed. I love seeing my clients so thrilled to get their kittens on pickup day. I would like the same love and respect back in regard to our program.

I know he's not a cat BUT, we've had a few people ask lately about kitten socialization with dogs and this beautiful boy is who our kittens get to meet multiple times before they go home.

This DOES NOT guarantee they will immediately like dogs. Most Sphynx will come around but it takes time and we never leave our kittens alone with any animals, other than their mom.

This is Tortie's best friend when she isn't with her babies. Aja still hates him most of the time lol. Noodle has no idea what he thinks of him lol.

Gentle reminder: We have a lot of people on our waitlist, so if you're currently in correspondence about a kitten, please reply back to emails as quickly as possible. I will be strict with our 72 hour reply back policy when it comes to choosing your kitten. It isn't fair to everyone else that is waiting to have emails repeatedly ignored. (I can see if they have been viewed).

We try to be fair and courteous to everyone, but we have to draw a line somewhere.

*policy has be updated to 48 hours as of today.

Every once in awhile we get a sh*tty message or comment from a very uneducated person. The most recent was something along the lines of "breeding Frankenstein mutts" and questioning us following TICAs code of ethics.

Anyone with any knowledge of literally ANY cat breed will know that most cats are "mutts", and is why they are referred to as "papered" and not "purebred". The Canadian Sphynx breed started with literally a few hairless cats that were in**ed and then crossbred out with other cats to get a healthy gene pool and expand the traits that were originally desired. This is still expanded upon today. Done appropriately with proper health and temperament testing is not only appropriate but desirable so that your gene pool doesn't end up with a high COI (coefficient of inbreeding).

Also, the hairless cats that are the majority seen across North America are Canadian Sphynx and are different from the Donskoy and Peterbald from Russia.

So as far as following a strict code of ethics, we do.

So with the most sincere disrespect,

G*Y.

🚩🚩🚩RED FLAGS WHEN PURCHASING🚩🚩🚩

I wrote this for my friends website and after seeing the increase in scams lately; I thought it prudent to share here as well.

IF ANYONE HAS ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS ABOUT A CATTERY, FEEL FREE TO MESSAGE US REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU'RE WORKING WITH US.

*Not having a contract. ALL ethical breeders require a contract. This contract should have a return clause so that the puppy/dog/kitten/cat comes back to the breeder should the new family need to return them for any reason.

*Not allowing you to see the animal in a real time manner. By real time manner I mean by: FaceTime, Video Chat, In Person Visits, a live camera feed, etc. Essentially anything that will show you without a doubt that this puppy/dog/kitten/cat is alive and well in real time. Not all breeders allow in person visits. That in itself, is not a red flag. A lot of breeders operate out of their homes and they want their privacy and safety respected. There are also health concerns with live visits (parvo for example).

*Demanding payment without verification of anything or without a contract.

*Allowing breeding rights on any animal to anyone. Responsible breeders will limit the animals they allow to go with breeding rights and to whom can purchase them.

*Not doing any health testing OR not providing the health testing results they claim to have (ESPECIALLY THIS, AS THERE IS NO REASON TO NOT SHARE THE RESULTS UNLESS THEY ARE BAD OR NON-EXISTANT). They may redact certain information like an address or registration number for safety.

*Side note* Not all results are put onto the OFA website and a blank OFA does not automatically mean the tests have not been performed.

*Not answering reasonable questions that pertain to the animal you are purchasing. I say reasonable because over the years plenty of people have asked inappropriate questions that either had nothing to do with the animal in question or were personal in nature.

*Unclean/unsanitary conditions. I CANNOT stress this enough. If you consistently get videos and photos of unsanitary or unsafe conditions, do not purchase an animal from that breeder. Please keep in mind that puppies and kittens can and do make messes and get dirty. They will not always be spotless. There however is a HUGE difference between normal daily dirt and oils that accrue and a filthy animal. Dirty ears (mostly for kittens), dirty claw sheaths and claws (again mostly kittens), and matted fur (puppies and haired kittens) are all red flags for proper care. Again, kittens and puppies will play and they get dirty, but if that is all you see all the time; that is a problem.

*Too low of pricing. Raising kittens and puppies is VERY EXPENSIVE. We spend hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars doing this right. Most ethical responsible breeders do not make a lot of money. IF the pricing is far too low, it is either a scam (especially with Sphynx Kittens) or corners have been cut. There is the odd case where this doesn't apply but 9.9 times out of 10 it does.

*No vetting. If your animal (mostly puppies and kittens, as adult dogs may not need any vetting prior) has ZERO vet appointments prior to coming home, do not purchase from that breeder.
