Able Trainers and Telltale Aussies are launching Pre Puppy Prep this month!

🐾 Who is it for? Dog Breeders and/or anyone about to bring home their next dog or puppy!

🐾 Why it’s worth it: Let us help you feel comfortable knowing that you or your puppy families have support right from the start. For new families, we can take them step by step through what they need and questions they may have taking some of their questions off your plate. For your experienced puppy buyers, we can help get them organized for their new addition and guide them to resources they haven’t needed in a while!

Breeders, we know you pour everything into your puppies, and we want you to know that your families are ready to do the same. Plus, with how busy a litter keeps you, let us take some of the puppy prep questions and concerns off of your plate. With a consult with you, you’ll know that we are on the same page.
Bringing home your new best friend? We want you to have training support from before the pup even arrives at home!

Pre Puppy Prep: Breeders! This one is for you, too. With our litter package, we will help your puppy families get organized before their new best friend arrives home. Individuals bringing home new pups are welcome as well! Offered virtually.

Sport Dog Foundations: We'll come to you to work on sport dog foundations for disc or agility in your own backyard. Let us help you bridge the gap from back yard to group classes. In-person AND virtual space.

Puppy Board and Trains: Start off on the right foot and let us take care of setting a schedule, exposure trips, and life skills. In-person only.

It's the final class in the session for UpDog Games Collaborative this week. I'll be setting up a field for disc only games again and give the option to the players - we can play Greedy or feel free to come out for your turn and work on what you want (It could be a different game, workshopping your throwing, nailing down something specific with your dog)!

As competition season ramps up, feel free to join us for some practice time in the covered barn.

We’re back! We took a puppy vacation while we settled our newest family member into our home. Today we started up lessons again and hit the ground running with an excellent session with Riley!

Riley has been working on his big feelings about other dogs, and he and his family are doing a lovely job.

I have been working for the past few months with the Atlas Accessibility Team to present to you a webinar titled “Train the Person in Front of You: Make Your Training Accessible”. On Thursday, August 19th at 6pm we will be presenting and hosting a live Q&A on Fenzi Dog Sports Academy!

This presentation is geared towards pet dog trainers seeking to make their programs accessible to people with disabilities. We are so excited to open up this topic and have tons of information to share.

After my day job’s busy season, we’re back to regularly scheduled programming!

Paxton rounds out the current Able Trainers pet dog crew. This sweet black and tan GSD is three years old. I love to call him a golden retriever in a German Shepherd body; he is certainly the silliest of my three.

Paxton is an AKC intermediate trick dog and is working towards his advanced title. We have so much fun working on those tricks and can’t wait to share our progress to the next level!

We will be on hiatus while I am in my busy season at my day job! Looking forward to the formal launch afterwards. Hoping I can post a few personal training videos in my down time as my pups continue to work towards our trick titles!

Welcome to these adorable Norfolk Terriers, Walden and Wilmajo! Walden is five months old and learning to be polite to his older sister. Wilmajo is eleven years old and enjoys long naps on the couch, watching the world on the porch, and swimming in the lake. Wilmajo is polite and patient as they come, so we are helping her out by showing Walden that great things happen when he does calm behaviors around her!

Bijou is the next introduction of my three pet dogs. Same as Fletcher, he was raised to be a guide dog and did not make the cut for the program. He was happy to come home and seek out baskets and boxes to lay in.

This adorable four year old lab is my cuddliest dog and biggest chow hound. He can do a pretty cool handstand, too! Bijou is also working towards his trick dog titles and will be trying out agility over the summer.

Introducing Fletcher, a male sable German Shepherd who is one of my personal dogs. At five years old, Fletcher is a career change of The Seeing Eye meaning that he was born and raised to be a dog guide, but didn’t make the cut for the program. He came home to me and we have started work on our trick titles! We have high hopes to dabble in sports, but are content to do whatever makes Fletcher happy.

Fletcher’s favorite pass times include barking out the window and being silly on the bed when demanding pets. Can’t wait to show you all how we’ve been tackling the former!

Our not-quite-cooperative-care routine tonight! We recently started our cooperative care journey for nail trims for all of my dogs after a particularly unpleasant night trimming Fletcher’s nails a few months back. Since we’ve started on this, nail trim nights are much more pleasant and relaxed than they used to be.

In the video my dogs do not have full choice to opt out of their nail trims. We are not quite there yet, but that is the goal! I frequently check to see if they will continue to opt in to the trims, and we have come a long, long way. We used to have to have two people to do this, and now I can easily do it myself!

It’s a beautiful day that I got to take off to enjoy The Lemonade Conference, a dog training conference geared towards positive reinforcement trainers with webinars through the weekend.

In a moment between presentations, Paxton joined me for a quick sniffy walk to our neighborhood park. He was wonderful past a number of barking dogs as he was happy to move a little more freely and sniff as much as he pleased.

Meet Rosie! This sweet, 1-year-old border collie is settling into her new home with her family. She’s learning how to play politely with her human siblings, how to enjoy her crate, and some additional obedience. Rosie is my very first client and I am loving working with her!

Welcome to the official Able Trainers page! I am Sarah (she/her), founder of Able Trainers LLC. This is a pet dog training company that focuses on accessibility in dog training for people with disabilities.

There are plenty of resources, for instance, on how to teach a visually impaired dog or a dog with three legs, but there are far fewer if the human end of the leash needs accommodations. We strive to advocate for a new gold standard in accessible dog training.

Private lessons slots, both virtual (anywhere) and local in-person (central to northern New Jersey), will open officially June 18th, 2021. All bodies are welcome, people with disabilities and non-disabled people alike! If you need a dog trainer, please reach out via messenger or email at [email protected] .
