Just Four Paws Rescue Society We place dogs on their best fit. Any costs associated for a dog to be adopted outside of the lower mainland are at the expense of the adopter. YAY!

Just Four Paws Rescue Society is an incorporated registered non-profit rescue dedicated to re-homing local dogs, finding homes for street dogs in Mexico and the USA with our many rescue partners, and feeding homeless dogs & cats in the Lower Mainland. APPLYING FOR A DOG:
Please keep in mind that there may be multiple applications for a single dog and that even if your phone interview and home check are successful, there is no guarantee that you will be matched with the dog you have applied for. APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
You must be 21 or older and must be able to meet the dog when it arrives to Vancouver, Seattle International Airport or at our pick up location in Langley. If the adoption does not work out, the expense to bring the dog back is also the responsibility of the adopter. FAMILIES WITH YOUNG CHILDREN:
Please note that with very few exceptions, it is our policy not to adopt any dog into a home with children younger than eight years old. Even if a dog has been tested with children, we cannot be 100% sure how the dog will react to all children in all circumstances. Therefore, for the safety of your children (and the dog) we will not process applications where there are children under the age of eight living in the home. We understand that this policy may frustrate some people, especially those who are very dog experienced and/or have children who are used to being around dogs but we hope you will appreciate our position. THE ADOPTION PROCESS:

STEP 1 – FILL OUT THE APPLICATION FORM
The first step in the application process is filling out the application form by clicking on the “Adopt” button on the dog’s web site profile. The application may seem rather long but the questions are all important in helping us determine the suitability of bringing an overseas rescue into your home. As a result, we recommend you take time to fill out each question fully and thoughtfully. If questions are not answered or an answer indicates that your home may not be suitable for one of our dogs, your application will be denied and a denial letter will be emailed to you. Please understand that denial is not necessarily a reflection on your ability to provide for a dog, just that we are not confident that a match would be successful for one of our dogs. Should your application be denied we suggest perhaps applying with a different rescue group or looking for a local dog that you can go and meet first. STEP 2 – COMPLETE THE PHONE INTERVIEW
The next step is a Phone Interview conducted by one of our volunteers at a time that is convenient for you both. Our volunteer will generally be in contact with you approximately three to five days after you submit your application. The purpose of the phone interview is to discuss answers on your application and ask any clarifying questions. We want to hear about your past dog experience, your lifestyle and what you are looking for in a dog. The average call takes about 15 minutes and will mostly be about you, not the dog you are applying for. Most of our volunteers are adopters themselves so the Phone Interview is also a great opportunity for you to chat about their adoption experience too! Upon completion, the volunteer will report back to the Adoption Team who will determine if your application qualifies to go to the next step. STEP 3 – COMPLETE THE HOME CHECK
Once the Phone Interview notes have been reviewed and approved, you will be contacted (generally within three to five days) with regards to setting up a time to do a Home Check. Home Checks are currently being done remotely by video chat, Skype, Whatsapp, etc. but will hopefully return to in-person visits once the Covid crisis has passed. The purpose of the Home Check is to ensure that your home is ready to accept a dog. Our dogs won’t care if the dishes are done or the laundry is folded and neither do we! Instead, we will be looking for things like possible escape areas and potential safety hazards. If we see any areas of concern we will discuss these with you so that changes can be made prior to the dog’s arrival. Upon completion, the volunteer will report back to one of our Adoption Facilitators who will determine if your application qualifies to go to the next step. STEP 4 – THE APPROVAL EMAIL/CALL
Assuming you have met all the requirements and it seems likely that an adoption would be successful, you should hear good news from our Adoption Team that your application has been approved! Approval notification is done via email within approximately three to five days of completing your home check. You will also be notified at that time whether a match has been made with the dog(s) you applied for OR if we feel that you would be better suited for a different dog. We will do our best to offer alternative suggestions whenever possible.

**Please keep in mind that there may be multiple applications for a single dog and that even if your Phone Interview and Home Check are successful, that is no guarantee that you will be matched with the dog you have applied for. LOCAL DOGS
If you have applied for a dog that is being fostered locally, once you have received the approval email, we will connect you directly with the foster family so that you can arrange to meet the dog. The meeting is typically done in a socially-distanced fashion at a mutually agreed upon location. It is possible that either you or the foster may request that additional meeting(s) take place before a final decision is made. Before taking the dog home you will be asked to complete and sign the adoption contract and send us the adoption fee by e-transfer. STEP 5 – SEND IN THE DEPOSIT
If you have been approved to adopt an overseas dog you will be asked to send a $150 CDN refundable deposit. The deposit is NOT refundable, if you decide to cancel the adoption after a Flight Volunteer has already been found. Flight Volunteers are extremely valuable and a lot of work goes into finding a willing passenger and booking the dog onto his or her ticket. This means it is extremely important that you let us know right away if your adoption plans change. STEP 6 – YOUR DOG GOES ONTO A FLIGHT WAIT LIST
Once the dog has been secured with your deposit, he or she goes onto a flight wait list. The shelter then works to find a traveler who is willing to add the dog & crate as ‘extra luggage’ onto their ticket. (There is no cost to the traveler to do this as the shelter covers all extra expenses.) Once a Flight Volunteer has been found, the dog is checked by a veterinarian who will ensure that the dog is healthy and that his or her shots are up to date. The vet will then approve the dog for flight and provide all medical documentation including their vaccination record. STEP 7 – RECEIVE YOUR DOG’S FLIGHT INFO
Once the dog’s flight has been booked you will receive an email with their flight information as well as specific instructions regarding where you need to park when you get to the airport, what time you need to be there and what you need to bring with you including a Martingale collar, 4-6’ leash, poo bags, food and water. You may also want to bring a few extra towels and blankets that you can keep in the car in case there are any messes to clean up. STEP 8 – PAY THE REMAINDER OF YOUR ADOPTION FEE
Once your dog arrives the remainder of the adoption fee is required
Please send the amount due by e-Transfer to [email protected]. You will also need to sign the Adoption Agreement and send it to [email protected]. After submitting both the remaining Adoption Fee and Adoption Agreement, the adoption is considered to be final. Please note: we are available if there are any issues with your new pup and will discuss options if the adoption will not work out. STEP 9 – MEET YOUR DOG! The wait is over and your dog is here! The dog’s paperwork including vaccination records will be handed over to you at pickup. NOTE: Our adoption fees do not include certain airport-related costs. If your dog is flying into Vancouver, you can expect to pay a $31.50 CAD Agricultural Inspection Fee in order for Canadian Customs to release your dog. There may also be a $20 CAD porter fee. If your dog is flying into Seattle, similar fees may apply. Please bring cash to the airport for these costs. If you dog is coming to Peace Arch park there is a duty required on the adoption fee but the other fees are not charged. If picking up a Peace Arch Park you may also be required to quarantine. CONGRATULATIONS! You are now on your way home with your newest family member! THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT STREET DOGS:

Street dogs have often never gone to the dentist. The majority of dogs will need to have their teeth cleaned upon adoption. This is at the expense of the adopter. Not all homes need a fenced yard, however, if a yard is partially fenced, you will be required to secure the yard. The breeds assigned to most dogs are educated guesses. We encourage you to do as much research as you can about the breed (if known) prior to applying. However, it is not recommended that you restrict your search for a specific type of dog, nor to put too much into what breed is identified for a dog. If you have to have a specific breed, we are not able to guarantee it. Keep in mind that the identified breed could be something different and don’t fall in love with an assumption. Dogs are vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, and leptospirosis. Note that the dogs are vaccinated to the standards of the country of origin and for (CBSA) customs requirements, you may need to add booster shots to your furry friend, this is at your own cost. The rescue is not responsible for additional vet fees. Understanding that most dogs are not coming from a country that has the same standards of living for dogs as in Canada is important. Many dogs are living in a shelter and under less than ideal conditions. Most dogs eight months of age or older will have been spayed or neutered prior to their arrival to Canada. Exceptions are those for whom a health condition prevents them from safely undergoing surgery. Typically puppies younger than eight months cannot be spayed or neutered prior to their arrival. All adopted puppies MUST be spayed/neutered before the age of nine months. Confirmation that this has been done is mandatory for finalizing of the adoption. If adopting a puppy, the cost of the operation is at the expense of the new owner. REHOMING OR RETURNING A DOG:

Where an adopter wishes to return their pet, the dog MUST be returned to the rescue if the adoption does not work out. Adoption fees are non-refundable. Adopters who have returned their pets to us may not be permitted to adopt another animal from us in the future.

Cypress is ready for ADOPTION 💖 She is fostered in Surrey, available for meet-and-greets!

Cypress is a 3½ year old Husky mix with a soft red & white coat and stunning heterochromatic eyes. She's fully grown at 50 lbs and 23” in height (floor to shoulder).

Everywhere Cypress goes, people stop to pet her and offer her compliments. It’s no surprise that she draws attention because she’s sooooo personable and good-natured. Cypress’ personality is pretty hard to beat so let’s tell you all about this sweetheart!

💖 Cypress instantly likes everyone she meets, adults and kids alike. She makes friends easily, isn’t afraid of strangers, and shows confidence in all her social interactions.

💖 Cypress adapts quickly to new places, showing no fear or anxiety when introduced to new environments. She’s happy to come along when you visit friends & family and totally content to stay at a doggy sitter’s home while you’re away.

💖 Cypress is amazing with other dogs. 🐶 Does she like having doggie siblings? -YES! What about going to dog parks -ABSOLUTELY! Is she friendly when meeting new dogs during walks? -YUP! Cypress has a knack for reading other dogs’ cues and matching their energy/temperament.

💖 Cypress is great with kids and would be a lovely addition for a family with children.

💖 Cypress LOVES walks, especially exploring and sniffing every nook with curiosity. Nature trails are always a hit! Dog parks are also fantastic - a great way to let her run to her heart’s content. She’s just a fun-loving girl with a happy-go-lucky spirit.

💖 At home, Cypress likes to chill out after her activity time. She’ll happily snuggle with you on the sofa or just nap independently. She likes stuffies and will entertain herself with these around the house.

💖 House training is going great - she’s 99% there!

💖 Cypress is not a vocal dog and rarely barks. She will only whimper for about 5 minutes when left alone, then she stops and goes to sleep.

💖 She is totally comfortable during car rides. She can hop in the backseat or into the back of an SUV. She enjoys sniffing out the window and letting the wind blow through her hair!

💖 Cypress likes being primped - brushing her coat, cutting her nails, etc. She has no issues at all with being touched/handled.

💖 She doesn't seem to like squirrels so she will likely need a home without cats.

💖 Cypress is still learning some doggy manners, like not jumping up on people when she’s excited to say hello! Sometimes she still pulls on the leash, but typically she'd rather take her time sniffing than trying to run ahead. She responds well to “no” when you offer a correction.

💖 Cypress is healthy, with no known medical issues. She is fully vaccinated, spayed, and dewormed. SNAP 4Dx negative, Distemper negative.

We are fundraising for surgery for sweet Moncho who has a chronic boxofemoral dislocation. In simpler terms, Moncho’s left hip is dislocated; the ball of his hip joint is displaced from the socket. This causes him to have substantial pain and limping. The surgery will fully correct his joint, restoring his quality of life and allowing him to be pain-free. 💛 Moncho is a young, healthy dog, only 3 years old, and he has many happy years ahead of him. 💙 UPDATE - PHILLY is ADOPTED! 💙

Philly is eagerly awaiting his forever family. 🐾🐾 He is fostered in Surrey, ready to meet you in person!

Philly is 2.5 years old and weighs approx 25 lbs. Although we don’t know his exact breed, he resembles a Tibetan spaniel mix. We’ve gotten to know Philly’s personality very well since he arrived to BC. This guy is a true gem, beautiful on the inside and outside!

𝐒𝐨 𝐥𝐞𝐭’𝐬 𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐲 ….

🔹 Philly is the textbook definition of a social butterfly! He adores people, oozes with affection, and has a deeply loving heart. He’s the dog who will greet you at the door with so much joy, cuddle up with you on the couch, and curl up under your desk while you work.

🔹 Philly is absolutely not afraid of strangers. Everyone he meets is his new best friend! He’s always eager to say hello to new folks, without any gender-based fears or preferences.

🔹 Philly is very adaptable, settling in seamlessly in new places and environments. You can bring this guy anywhere and he’ll be happy as a clam! He welcomes new visitors to the home politely, showing his friendliness to all who come over.

🔹 Philly is fantastic with children 👧🏻👦🏼 He’s gentle and kind with all little humans. He would be a great addition to any family with kiddos.

🔹 Philly lives perfectly with other dogs! 🐶 He has lived in homes with multiple other dogs, easily fitting into the pack every time. He enjoys playing with doggie siblings and has not shown any possessiveness around food or toys.

🔹 Philly has also shared a home with cats 🐱 and there were no issues at all between him and the kitties.

🔹 Philly’s energy level is well-balanced, he loves playtime and walks but also enjoys his down time. He would love a backyard to run around but this is not a necessity. He enjoys toys of all kinds - balls, frisbees, squeakers, stuffies - and he’ll entertain himself with these when you’re too busy to play with him. He's also happy to lounge around the house or relax on the patio in a patch of sun.

🔹 Philly is a happy little explorer during walks, eager to sniff and investigate everything around him. He does still pull on the leash but if you stop walking, he will stop right beside you and wait patiently. He is not fazed by cars, bikes, or skateboards passing by.

🔹 Philly is very enthusiastic to meet other dogs on walks - a little too enthusiastic & exuberant sometimes! When he’s on his leash, he barks at dogs passing by and pulls towards them. We correct this by shortening his leash, having him sit and using the word “look” with a treat to get his attention on us.

🔹 He is highly intelligent and learns skills quickly. He’s fully house trained and knows basic commands (sit, down, off, no, wait, leave it). Philly is very treat motivated, making training an easy and enjoyable task.

🔹 Philly is great in the car, he curls up comfortably in the backseat and has a snooze.

Full bio and application form 👉 https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=2123717&name=Rusty+-+LOCAL!

Rusty is 2 years old, weighs about 25 lbs, and is ~14" tall to the shoulder.!

Rusty a loving and social boy who makes friends with everyone he meets - big people, little people and other dogs. He hasn't been introduced to any feline friends yet but he’s a gentle guy, never aggressive, so it's unlikely that he would clash with a cat.

UPDATES FROM FOSTER PARENTS:

💚 Rusty is sooooo affectionate. He LOVES pets, hugs, and making himself comfortable on your lap. If a snuggly boy is what you're looking for, Rusty may be perfect for you!

💚 Rusty adores people and builds trust quickly with humans. He leans his body against people to ask for pets and he also knows this move where he stands up and puts his paws together to beg for affection! He may get the barkies for a few minutes when he’s assessing a new person, and then he's putty in your hands.

💚 Rusty gets along with other dogs very well! Our resident dog can be a little playful and overbearing at times but Rusty the good natured boy puts up with him like a champ. Throughout the day, they play together and nap together on the couch. When other dogs come over to visit, he's great with them too.

💚 Rusty is motivated by pets and praises. Although he likes all kinds of food we give him, he's not extremely food motivated. He's all about the praise and affection. He's very attentive to his humans and seems eager to please so I think his future owner will have a relatively easy time training him.

💚 Rusty is relaxed and well behaved at home. He loves his toys - especially his chew toys. He can gnaw on them for hours. He does not destroy furniture or cables. Occasionally, he steals one of my house slippers to play with but he doesn't chew on them, just small nibbles. 😆

💚 Rusty is a bit chonky but boy does he love to be active. His favourite activities are running around the yard, chasing butterflies, and sniffing the clovers. He likes to hop around in tall grass and bushes. 😆 He would do great with an active, lively family and social interactions with his humans & fur siblings.

💚 Rusty walks nicely next to us on the leash and doesn't tug much. He prefers staying close to his human so that helps. In new places he may be a little stimulated but after some time he relaxes and walks nicely.

💚 They say English Springer Spaniels are great at dog parks - and they're totally right! Rusty was a real good boy at the dog park. He explored the new scents calmly and greeted other dogs politely.

💚 Rusty generally does his business outside but sometimes still has p*e accidents in the house. When we are at work and leave him home for the entire day, he will p*e in a corner of the room. He doesn't really understand p*e pads yet.

💚 He prefers being out of his crate but also sleeps well in his crate at night. As long as there are comfy pillows and a nice toy in his crate, he is relaxed.

💚 Rusty came to my office for a whole day at work with me. A little bit of nerves and barkies at first but he soon calmed down, settled in, and made a few new friends. He even got the hang of the elevator real quick!

💚 He does well on car rides. He sat through the one hour drive to work like a champ!

🩵 ADOPT ME 🩵

Hi guys, my name is Tommy! I’m living in Vancouver with my foster mom and I’m super excited to find my FURever family 🩵

I’m a Labrador retriever/shepherd pup, 10 months old. I’m medium size, about 50 lbs, and might still grow a bit more. I come from Guadalajara, Mexico, where I was rescued from the streets when I was a tiny puppy.

I was surprised to learn that black dogs have a harder time getting adopted. I promise I’m just as loving, cute and smart as other dogs! My foster mom always tells me I’m such a good boy because I’m friendly with everyone, enthusiastic to meet new people, and overall very good-natured,

Making friends with other dogs comes pretty easily to me. I just need a few minutes to warm up to new doggies. Bigger dogs are fun to play with, but I get along just fine with little ones too. I also love cats! I don’t chase them, I just gently try to play with them. At my foster home, I live with both dogs and cats, no issues at all!

My favourite things are going for walks, playing, and cuddling on the couch with my humans. There is no shortage of affection when I’m around! When you give me pats and scratches, I simply melt. 🩵

Some more fun facts about me … I’m fully house trained, I love to learn (treat rewards are fantastic!), I hardly shed, and I like children too! Although there are no kids at my current foster home, my very best friend was a sweet 3-year old girl when I lived in Mexico. When I’m in my playful mood, I may accidentally bump the little ones, but I mean no harm at all.

If I sound like the fur baby you’ve been looking for, let’s meet each other in person! All you have to do is fill out an adoption application to get the ball rolling - maybe we’ll be the perfect match!
