We are excited to announce that we have added a white and a blue egg layer to our flock for some extra variety! A question that often gets asked is, do color eggs taste any differently? The answer is quite simply NO. They all eat the same things and the color on the shell is not connected in any way to flavor.

Today we had a small first aid moment. Sophia got stuck in my brother's garden netting . I didn't think much of it until she came up to the door later and I saw she was bleeding. I took her in my arms and examined her after bringing her inside. Then I took her up to the bathroom for treatment.

Treatment was cleaning the cut under her comb and putting some Green Goo on it and her comb to help the comb from getting frostbite especially around the wound. During treatment, she received many cuddles and soothing pats with a warmed towel. She also got a handful of scratch which I keep a baggie of inside for such moments. It helps keep them happy and distracted.

I'll have to keep an eye on her. If the others peck at her, I'll have to isolate her for healing.

Thanksgiving eggies! Hope everyone has a good day, even if you can't be with family. 💜🖤💜

So in chicken news, as many of you know, our Buff Orpington girl, DT, has had...a very hard time staying feathered. Between being picked on AND it being molting season, she's looked pretty rough. Lucky for us, molting season brings new growth. We moved her to sleeping with the three younger hens and letting her out in the morning with the littlest ones. We've also switched the feed for the season to something called Feather Fixer. It has added nutrients to promote faster feather development during molting. And as you can see in the picture, Deets is doing great. She's still bottom of the pecking order (except with the little M&Ms.) but she's not being pecked and pulled at. I'm still saving up for a coop large enough to house them all, and I've had a family member help, but the total is pretty big so the ends not yet in reach. Until then, it's almost time to get some sort of heating for the coops. Last year we had less chikkum and could use a covered heated blanket. This year will probably see the installation of a few heating pads. Hope everyone else is doing well and don't forget, we're almost done with 2020! 🙏🙏🙏

Three dozen eggs are ready for your delicious recipes!!

As autumn gets cooler, it isn't uncommon for egg production to slow down. Our average went from 35 to around 27-30 a week at best.

We will still have eggs available as often as possible and look forward to helping you with your needs!

Well, one of the pullets finally laid her first egg! And then the shell must have gotten cracked or crushed. It appears they ate the shell. (That's actually okay as it's a great boost of calcium. ) I just wish I knew who produced this gorgeous yolk!

Roosters are great to have! Roosters are an excellent and natural security system for your flock. Not only do they sound the alert, most of them will even put themselves in the fight to save their girls.

That being said, i heard the alert tonight as I was getting out of the bath. I ran out (we'd lost a hen around this time in the past) to check things out and...it was just Ava stuck on the coop roof and unsure of how to get down. 🤦‍♀️

Soon there will be green eggs. You can tell when your hens are just about ready by a few signs. One sign is the brightening of their combs, the redder the readier.

Today, Ava showed another sign. As I approached her to pick her up, she assumed the submissive pose a hen takes when they accept a rooster. Exciting! This pose is a knelt position.

Woo-hoo for green eggs! Currently, we have 1 dozen brown eggs available. 🧡🤍🧡
