Some days you have a win and it makes it all seem worthwhile.
This wedge-tailed Eagle was found in a paddock several months ago unable to fly. The caring farmer managed to catch it and called it in. “Xena” had two fractures in her left wing. The fractures were repaired and she was kept in confinement for several weeks until they healed. She went to the Raptor rehabilitation property at Townsville to recuperate and build her muscle and strength again so she could fly.
Many, many thanks to the whole chain of caring and dedicated people that made it possible for this stunning bird to return to her home.

This little guy came in yesterday having been hit by a car. Luckily he managed to avoid serious injury, however he still had broken spines and a bad bump to his nose which can be a very serious injury to an echidna. The tip of an Echidna’s beak is very vascular and sensitive and important for breathing, smelling and finding food- AKA important for survival. Please be careful when driving, Echidna’s move slowly and haven’t learnt how to cross a road!

Hope everyone had a great weekend with this stunning weather. Was lucky enough to spot a cassowary this afternoon on a walk from Speewah campground.

Just a reminder however to please make sure your animals’ vaccinations are up to date. Had a parvovirus case through the week. One very sick dog. 🐶Extremely unpleasant virus and easily preventable by vaccination.

The same goes for heart worm. Have been seeing an increase in positive cases of that too. Much easier (and cheaper) to prevent than treat.

If anyone wants to ask questions about
any of these illnesses please feel free, via FB, website, messenger or phone !

A bandicoot was brought in after being hit by a car. Mother bandicoot with tiny babies in her pouch. She had received a head knock with blood coming from her nose. No other obvious injuries besides a possible concussion being slow to move and not nervous around people. Went out to check on her before going to bed to make sure she’d eaten. Found she’d made a friend who also was not phased by humans around, merely blinking when the torch was shone on him/her. This morning they were curled up together 😊

Hi everyone, just wanted to put a reminder out there that paralysis ticks are out and about. Always hard to believe how something so small can have such a large affect.

Please make sure your pets are treated with a preventative- there are several types on the market, from oral chews, to spot ons to collars. However no one product is perfect so daily checking is a must. Paralysis ticks tend to be a blue/grey colour with all the legs originating up near the mouth. Other ticks, like the brown dog tick and cattle ticks the legs extend down the side of the body of the tick.

Signs to look for in your pet include:
1) Altered voice- some dogs barks change.
2) Off food and or vomiting
3) Wobbliness in hind legs and unable to stand
4) Change in respiration.

If you suspect your pet has a tick, take to your closest vet immediately.
