Urinalysis
Important laboratory test that can be readily performed in veterinary practice and is considered part of a minimum database. It's not limited to diseases involving the urinary tract. Examples are liver disease, hemolysis and diabetes mellitus.
Ideally, urine helps the interpretation of a chemistry panel; abnormalities in BUN and creatinine are better evaluated with a UA and abnormalities in a UA are better interpreted with chemistry results.
Urine can be collected 3 ways:
▪️Cystocentesis (sterile needle and syringe are used to collect urine from the bladder)
▪️Catheterization (sterile catheter is passed up the urethra into the bladder)
▪️Free flow
Three things looked for in urinalysis:
▪️Urine appearance (color, clarity, odor)
▪️Urine chemistry/ Dipstick a**lysis (SpG, pH, protein, glucose, ketones, bilirubin, blood)
▪️Urine sediment (red blood cells, white blood cells, crystals, casts, bacteria, epithelial cells, lipids)
*Urine should be evaluated within 30 min. If this is not possible, refrigerate for up to 24hrs. Refrigeration does not alter pH or SpG.
Análisis de o***a
Prueba de laboratorio importante, se considera parte de una base de datos mínima. No se limita a enfermedades que involucran el tracto urinario. Algunos ejemplos son la enfermedad hepática, la hemólisis y la diabetes mellitus.
La o***a se puede recolectar de tres formas:
▪️Cistocentesis (se usan una aguja y jeringa estériles para recolectar la o***a de la vejiga)
▪️Cateterismo (el catéter estéril pasa por la uretra hacia la vejiga)
▪️Flujo libre
Tres cosas que se buscan en el análisis de o***a:
▪️Aspecto de la o***a (color, claridad, olor)
▪️Química de la o***a / análisis con tira reactiva (SpG, pH, proteínas, glucosa, cetonas, bilirrubina, sangre)
▪️Sedimento de o***a (glóbulos rojos, glóbulos blancos, cristales, cilindros, bacterias, células epiteliales, lípidos)
* La o***a debe ser evaluado en 30 min. Si esto no es posible, refrigere hasta por 24 horas. La refrigeración no altera el pH ni el SpG.
