Another Sunday morning here in the shelter… and it’s spring here, again 🙄.
Helloooo…. I want my own home, where are all you Akita lovers at? 🤔
(and where’s my breakfast??!!? 😂)

PLEASE SHARE ME 🙏 I’m located in Warwick, Rhode Island:
Yuki has been waiting for a home since February 2023 (yes, 1 year plus 2 months ago!)!! Every day we ask Yuki: where are all the Akita lovers at???? Now she’s asking the very same question. 🐕
Yuki is a big, happy girl with lots of character, personality and brains. She is also goofy and playful. Yuki seems to get along with dog-friendly dogs although she’s probably a better match with a male dog than with another female. Yuki is a gorgeous, photogenic girl and has the "head tilt pose" perfected. She is a favorite among staff and volunteers, and we estimate her age at approximately 6 years. Yuki is house-trained, and she was spayed and vaccinated at the shelter.
Yuki will need an Akita-experienced home (or similar breed experience). Akitas are an ancient Japanese breed known for their courage and loyalty - the Akita breed is not a good choice for novice dog owners. Yuki is not suitable in a home with children, as with most Akitas, she is aloof with people she doesn't know. Yuki’s double coat will require regular brushing and more so when shedding. We love her curly tail! Akitas are symbols of health, happiness and long life, and we’d add that Yuki’s silly antics will keep you laughing too.

This Wheek wheek Wednesday pigs are our Bonded pair Pancake 🥞 & Buddy 💕
Buddy is the most courageous out of the two of them and will come out for a yummy treat. Pancake will be right behind him making sure it’s safe for him to join in the treat. They love their tunnels and can be found in there most of the time.

On K-9 Veterans Day, we remember one of Rhode Island’s K-9 heroes, Ruby.

Ruby spent the better part of her young life in shelters, waiting for not just the perfect home- but the perfect job. Corporal O’Neil rescued Ruby from the RI Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals

For 10 years, Ruby served the Rhode Island State Police helped locate dozens of missing people, including her former favorite RISPCA Volunteers son. The story of her rescue can be seen in the Netflix original film Rescued by Ruby.

Sadly, Ruby passed away suddenly from illness in 2022.

Rest in peace Ruby, thank you for your service.

🚨Please Share🚨

Polkadot is looking for a VERY specific home situation. It's VERY important you read this thoroughly before applying for Polkadot. It's MORE important you listen to exactly what we have to say.

I think those who follow us, know we ALWAYS disclose the truth. Even if it's not pleasant. Why lie? Our goal here is to find suitable homes vs just pushing cats out. We truly care and love each and every one of them.💜

Polkadot has been returned twice now. Due to no fault of anyone. Polkadot has had a few incidents of viciously attacking her owners. 😞 I mean, she has done some real damage. We feel absolutely awful about this. Now some of the incidents we can understand maybe she got spooked, like when someone dropped an apple on the floor. Ok fine. But other times, she just comes full force from a different room when people were having a nice calm conversation. Now, Polkadot also is a super sweetheart. Her prior families told us she is a super snuggle bug. We at the shelter, have never experienced an attack (over 1 year of time), once in a great while she can be a little swatty but generally just wants love and food. She is always in her cage at our shelter and when our team has let her out, she has never come at us. NEVER! But she's only out for small periods at a time. We don't know what sets her off or her past history prior to coming to us.🤷‍♀️ But her having free roam is just not an option any longer for everyone's safety.

We truly think Polkadot would do fine in a home in either a tall cage or some sort of an enclosure. Again, she is a love in her cage. She's happy. She needs a strict person who will keep her in a cage or enclosure. Not someone who will fall for or assume she's doing so great that she can wander free. No! 🚫 She needs stability and routine. That is what is best for her.

We know this is a lot to ask but her options are this or live in a tiny cage in a shelter environment the remaining of her life. We will provide the cage or enclosure and be helpful in any way. She is roughly 3.5 years old. It would be best for her to be the only cat but we think she will adjust to another cat in the home as she currently is in the shelter surrounded by many other felines. No kids and no dogs.

We are not seeking everyone's medical or behavioral advice today. We are searching for a special home. So please help us share. Please. 🤞
