We are on desperate need of some help on the farm. We can pay you. Your pay will be hourly and based off your experience and ability to work alone on projects. You don't need any experience! We will train you if needed.

Another good reminder!

Don't forget! Even just looking by moving your head will do some! Your head is heavy and the horse can feel it. To be more insistent you and turn your chest some which will usually, unless you have an independent seat, will cause you to twist your hips some which will further direct your horse. Want to know more about independent seats? Let me know in the comments!

So I started my day with a little natural horsemanship. I went up to the farm to let Cloud and stood around for a while with my horse loving on him. I followed him into the barn after a bit and grabbed out our bridle we use on anyone we want to just jump on ba****ck real quick. I held it up to my horse and he just stood there facing me so I put it on him and we walked out to the mounting block.

I got on him and he immediately headed for the south field. We walked most of the way around it stopping occasionally to take in the sights. We eventually made our way back to the barn where he took me straight to the mounting block. Mind you during the entire ride I rarely gave him any instructions. So I got off him and Pumpkin who had followed us to the south field and back was standing next to the mounting block looking expectantly.

So I held the bridle out to him and he stood there while I put it on him. Then I led him around the block and got on. He took me into the barn and just stood. So we just stood around for a bit, while I rubbed on my horse who followed us around. We moved around the barn a bit and at one point I laid down on Pumpkin and hooked my feet on his back. Hawkeye said that was the perfect and rested his head on me and Pumpkin. It was SO sweet! Pumpkin started shaking his head a lot so I took the bridle off him and he just stood around for a while. I did tell him if get off of he took me to the mounting block or along the grooming area fence. He seemed to understand because after a few moments he stepped closer to the fence and I got off.

Now for those who know much about talking animals (the push buttons) most cats and dogs take a little bit to seemingly process instructions. This time goes up the more complex the statement. It's a lot like when a person is learning a third language but using their second language to do it. There's just extra processing time to translate it fully. I routinely tell my horse's mounting block when we start heading to it. I will also say things like, no barn, North field as I turn them away from the barn and towards the North or South field. There is a real possibility he understood me saying mounting block and put two and two together and lined up at the fence because I do sometimes use it to get on and off at. This is not the first time Pumpkin has shown an understanding for words. Any of my students will tell you he understands a lot of what you say to him.

It was a lovely time bonding with both boys! Check out my reels for some videos of us hanging out.

A lovely ride yesterday on my very fresh horse. He hasn't been ridden much for the past few weeks because of the abscess he got in his foot. I rode him this morning as well and he was just as wild. We had a great time both times though!

Everyone can help out at the barn! Mom is helping me soak my horse's foot in Epsom salt water in this picture. His hoof is hurting him so we are soaking it, but he says it hurts. Mom sits with him with her hand on his leg to keep his foot in the water. We believe he has what we call a gravel. Here is a good article on gravels. https://thehorse.com/14845/graveled-horses/

Eric Lamaze is an amazing horseman and will be shortly missed as a competitor. It's wonderful though that he can help along a new generation.

Canadian Olympic champion Eric Lamaze announced today, March 31, that he has officially retired from show jumping competition. Lamaze, who has been battling brain cancer since 2017, last competed at the Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ Tournament CSI...

A really good point. We don't shave our horses whiskers because they need them for sensing.

A really good point. We don't shave our horses whiskers because they need them for sensing.

Beautiful sparkly whiskers ✨ But what are they for?
Whiskers have nerves at their base, so they provide sensory feedback to the horse. Horses explore things with their muzzle, and it’s a visual blind spot, so their whiskers are extra important here to give them information about objects, distance, textures and so on. They increase a horse’s awareness and sensitivity and help to protect delicate areas.
It’s great that the practice of whisker trimming is slowly being relegated to the past, with many countries and equestrian bodies no longer allowing whisker trimming on welfare grounds. 👏🏻
