Everyday, I commit to being uniquely encouraging and empowering with my clients. I am a veterinary dermatologist who understands that this disease is a chronic, relapsing condition that will present some owners and their beloved pets with specific challenges that can be hard to overcome. We don't have to dwell in that, we just have to act within that. Take what we are given, adjust the puzzle, find the right pieces, and create a plan. Special snowflakes. ❄️

Is every dog cured? Is every owner happy at every moment? Are we sometimes discouraged? No x 2. Yes x 1.

But, we have tools in our toolkit and can make do with what we have. 🧠

I empower all members of the allergic dog healthcare team to put the puzzle together for every patient, no matter what, through education and empowerment. I am glad you are here for that. 🐾🙌🫶❄️

I have been hinting at some changes and projects that are in the works 🔥. This morning I had a thought about how important it is to me to be sure that I stand on a firm ethical ground when I am bringing any educational content about allergic dogs to any audience. So, I wrote up a draft of my Code of Ethics. And, it is beautiful 🥰 and so important to me. 🐾

Here are values that I have and promise to bring to you, no matter what:

1. Respect for All Professional Relationships. I will never tolerate any form of professional bashing, name-calling, or divisive language in my content, community interactions, or communications. 🫶

2. Evidence-Based, Ethical Education 🧠
My content is grounded in current, evidence-based veterinary science, with a focus on presenting practical, balanced information for each audience.

3. Empowerment, Not Fear 🙌
I aim to create a positive, hopeful environment that supports the emotional well-being of our entire community. Say this one again for the cheap seats in the back. We do not need to be afraid! 🐾 I do not need to make false claims in order to generate support and a larger audience.

4. Integrity, Transparency, and Ethical Recommendations 👩‍⚕️
I am transparent about the sources of my information, the purposes of my educational materials, and how this is a and that I am a out here on a really, really cool mission.

5. Commitment to Accountability and Continuous Improvement 🥳
I encourage all members of this community to embody ethical behavior in their own interactions, promoting a culture of respect, professionalism, and compassion.

This just fills up my cup to have this written down, organized, and out there in the world. If you read this far, share - like - follow - join - ground with me. Let's go!

"He makes us the best version of ourselves." 🐾💛 - a new pet owner from yesterday about her dog.

This line hit me right in the feels because, really, isn’t this what it’s all about? Our pets have this incredible way of bringing out something better in us. I loved that she felt like this dog did that, in a different way, for every member of the family. Just a really cool perspective. And, I agree - our pets can keep us grounded, make us laugh, and remind us to slow down and just be present. They provide something a lot of people just cannot.

As a vet, I get to see firsthand how these connections run deep, and it’s one of the best parts of what I do. Every single day, I’m reminded of just how much our pets shape us, teach us, and bring us closer to who we want to be. 🧡

Does this resonate? Share more below. Let's keep that warm-and-fuzzy going.

There are a million reasons why today could be stressful, chaotic.

I am feeling the pressure and absorbing the anxiety in so many ways, as a deeply feeling and connected human. I know that my fellow tend toward that prototype, and so I see you out there feeling it too.

One thing that I come back to, in times like this, is the way that my animals ground me. My cat, Chips, was with me this morning and gently meowed when I woke up. She has no idea that there's an election, or that my Mom is sick and in the hospital, or that I have to work today despite all the insanity. She's just there. Gentle. Steady. Soft.

Take time today with a member of another species. Ground with them. See them for what they offer us. How they offer us that sense of solace and clarity. They are not here for us. But, they can be here for us. There is nothing better.

May you all have moments today of solace and clarity. I am sending goodness, and grounding, and connection.

Today marks a special milestone— it's our third birthday!

Whether you’ve been here from the beginning or joined along the way, I’m so grateful to share this all with you!

Three years ago, I sent my very first email to a small but passionate group of veterinarians eager to learn more about allergic skin and ear diseases in pets. Fast forward to today, and we’ve built something truly meaningful—a space dedicated to practical, real-world education that helps us all grow as veterinary professionals. 🐾❤️

As I reflect on the past three years, I’m filled with gratitude for:

- Your support, which has made this so rewarding and really d*mn fun. 🙏
- The stories you’ve shared about how what you have learned has transformed your approach to managing your cases.
- The progress we've made together in figuring out how to do this thing called "being a vet".

But I’m not stopping here. 💪🏼🧠🔥

This milestone also marks the start of a new chapter—one that’s bigger, bolder, and designed to elevate veterinary dermatology education even further. 🚀

I can’t reveal all the details just yet (I love a good surprise!), but I promise you it’s going to be worth the wait. 👀

Day 1 of the Muller-Ihrke-Kwochka Dermatology Seminar is in the books! ✅ I kicked off the morning as the first speaker, sharing insights about A**l Sac Disease – a topic I’m very passionate about. 🐾✨

The lecture space at this hotel is perfect: wide open, with room to move around and really connect with the audience – exactly how I love to teach! 👩‍🏫💬 I thrive when I can be close to the crowd - human to human. And, yesterday’s audience was engaged, inquisitive, and full of energy. My cup got fillllllled up. 🥰🤩🤓

The other speakers were incredible, too! I'll share more about them in subsequent posts, because they deserve their own little spotlight! 🔦🎙

The feedback from Day 1 was super positive – glad I could kick things off on a high note! 🎉 On to Day 2… let's keep the momentum going! 🌊🏝️

🌺 Aloha from Hawaii! 🏝️ I’ve officially arrived for the 39th Muller-Ihrke-Kwochka Dermatology Seminar! It starts TOMORROW!

As the sun rises, and I can see that I am actually in paradise - I just had to share my morning "look" with my coffee ☕️

Do you recognize anyone on my Hawaiian shirt?! Yup, it's my husband.

A few years ago, on Summer vacation, my sister-in-law got us these. What a perfect place to wear it!

While I sip (slash, guzzle) some coffee, I’m also diving into some exciting projects today… because even in paradise, the grind doesn’t stop. 💻🌊

Stay tuned for more updates, and if you’re at the conference, come say hi! 👋🏻🌈

Hey everyone, Dr. Meagan Painter here! I am on my way to the ready to head to for the Muller-Ihrke-Kwochka Dermatology Seminar! 🌴✈️

This will be my first time speaking at this incredible conference, and I couldn’t be more excited to share insights on allergic skin and ear diseases in pets with fellow vets. 🧠🐾

But here’s the reality—I’m also a mom. Leaving for these events is both thrilling and tough. Saying goodbye to Claire for a few days never gets easier. 💔 Before every trip, we have our little “pre-travel routine”: packing her favorite snacks, reading extra bedtime stories, and leaving little reminders that I will be home soon. It’s all about staying connected, even when I’m far away. ❤️

Fun fact about prepping for my lectures: If I have a dream about what I am lecturing on, I know I am ready. And - yup - you guessed it - last night I dreamt about a**l glands 😆🤣🤯

Another fun fact - we have the best hamster.

Oh wait - one more fun fact - our dog is awesome too.

Hold up, can't forget about ANDREW (my husband) who is literally the best.

To all the working parents out there—you’re doing an amazing job. And to my fellow vet moms (and dads) who balance passion with parenthood, I see you! Let’s make this trip count, both professionally and personally.

What’s your best tip for balancing work trips and family time? Drop your thoughts below—I’d love to hear how you manage! 💬👇

🎙️ Look what just arrived—my brand-new mic! 🙌 Why? Because if I’m going to bring you all the real talk on allergic disease, it better sound just as good as it is helpful.

This little upgrade is all about creating the best learning experience for you—clearer audio, more engaging content, and maybe (slash/definitely) even a few extra laughs. 😆 But honestly, it’s just one more step in making sure these upcoming courses are as practical and user-friendly as possible.

I can’t share all the details just yet, but something big is in the works, and I’m excited to bring you along for the ride. You’ve been part of this journey from the start, and I can’t wait to see how much we can grow together. 🧠🔥🐾

Who’s ready for better sound and even better education? Drop a 🎙️ below if you're excited for what’s next—because I sure am!

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to visit my alma mater, Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, for their annual Open House. I had my daughter, Claire, by my side. 🐾💙

Becoming a veterinarian was truly the best decision I've ever made. It’s not just a career, it’s a calling that brings me so much fulfillment and joy. I feel incredibly grateful every day for the chance to help animals and their families, and to make a difference in their lives. I cannot imagine a 'me' without veterinary medicine, especially veterinary dermatology.

To all the aspiring veterinarians out there—dream big. This journey is worth every challenge and every step. 🌟You can get through Anatomy, promise!

You can make the journey of veterinary medicine uniquely yours. I certainly did 🧠🔥🐾🥰

Thank YOU for being a part of that!

One of the fun lectures that I am working on right now is about the influence of breed on the development of various skin diseases, including allergic disease. Do you ever see yourself wondering why [most] German Shepherds seem to have explosive, ulcerated lesions when they have allergies? And, why [most] French Bulldogs seem to have the same paw and ear problems? And, why Labradors can develop the world's worst pododermatitis?

Well, I am curious about that too! And, so I decided to pull the papers and write a lecture about it. It is new content for Vet Vacation CE in Hawaii in October 2024! And, I am psyched about it.

BUT - I do talk about this in my renowed Medication Masters course. So, if you want a tasty preview and/or can't make it to Hawaii - check out that course to learn more!

ESPECIALLY you VETERINARY STUDENTS. This course is FOR YOU! Head start on clinics, right here. Link in the comments!
