Donors can sponsor the spay/neuter of cats as a community sponsor or as an adopter. Feral cats are adopted to vetted rural properties. The idea for Hayloft Hunters came about from our own experience with cats rescued for a life running free on our property and a unique situation that came about after the Harvey flood. My husband & I have always rescued rather than "bought" animals. This worked for
us. Combining our needs with the animal's need for a healthy home. We live in a very rural area near Liberty, Texas. After Harvey, we were the only family that remained on our county road while we rebuilt our home after the flood. Mostly because we had livestock & animals that needed to stay on our property while we rebuilt. It just wasn't feasible to live somewhere else. So, we camped out on our property until we could move back into our house. However, since we were providing some food to our barn cats, many other feral or lost (due to the flood) cats started migrating to our property. So, we started matching them with friends who wanted a hearty, outdoorsy cat for their own barns. Word got out and we found ourselves helping more and more cats who were just not right for "inside the home" rescues. We ARE NOT a 501c3 non profit, so we have a plan that ensures that we're not "making money" and that the adopter knows exactly where their cost to spay/neuter or transport a rescue is being spent. If we have a "barn" cat that you would like to adopt, we will make arrangements to take the cat to be spayed/neutered at a snap facility that you can pay directly. We take care of the transport to snap and the after surgery care. Once the cat has recovered, we can deliver them directly to you for a transportation fee to cover the cost of gas, within a 100 mile radius of our location. This solution helps barn owners who want to help solve the feral cat problem, but don't have the time to handle the process. And, of course, we all get the joy of helping a rough & tough outdoorsy cat find a home that is just perfect for their personality. If you wish to sponsor an adoption, we can do that also. Some of our rescues are wild & free and some like to get a morning pet or scratch before they enjoy a day of hunting those pesky rodents and snakes on the property. All of our rescues are much happier with an independent lifestyle and are quite knowledgeable about wintering in the barn, drinking from the water tank, used to livestock (although chickens may be iffy for some of our best hunters) and are just all around tough as nails Texas barn cats. Take a look through our news feed or in our photo gallery to see if one of our rescues might be just right for your barn. Message us here on our page or give us a holler and we'll talk about it. We can even set up an in person visit that can include a cup of porch coffee. Blessings! Herb & Valerie
