This was not the cross I was originally working towards but I wanted to be completely transparent - things often don’t go to plan when you work with horses.
Originally, I had planned to use Annie, a 3 year old maiden filly. She is bred in the purple, lovely type with great movement, scopey jump . And being frozen semen I’ve had success in the past using young maiden mares.
Annie, unfortunately had other plans. I can not fault how she handled the whole process - until it came to scanning. She just was not having a bar of it. As most will know, with AI there is a lot of scanning in the lead up to ovulation to inseminate in the right window. I decided to call it a day. Even with sedation she was quite unhappy and I certainly didn’t want to put anyone at risk to achieve a pregnancy.
Enter Arietta!
I am incredibly fortunate to have a few mares to chose from, especially this time around with only one pregnancy planned. I was hoping to bring Ari back into work. Ari is a well bred, FEI quality mare (currently schooling nov/elementary).
So this past week we’ve been back and forth to the vets for scans and all going to plan (it hasn’t so far 😅) early next week we will be on. Currently we are sitting on a big follicle with a CL still present on the other o***y so just waiting, waiting!
This year has not started well for me, so let’s see if our luck can turn around 😄
