Never a dull moment. I noticed fan favorite Elmo whos about 11 years young, was a bit squinty with his left eye.

I monitored him for a couple of days and noticed it looked like a housemate swatted him or possibly his fur was growing inward and irritating his eye.

Off to the doctor he went this morning where he got a thorough examination (he hated almost as much as the drive there) and they stained his eye looking for injury, (there was none) and ran a bunch of blood work because Elmo is older and shaved the fur away from his eye (he hated that).

Elmos labs were great and he's back home recovering from his eye anomaly.

There is always 1 during the holidays.🤦‍♀️

Relieved he is okay 🙏

🥶🥶🥶 Darn Cold this morning I can tell ya that.

Update on all the new slow feeders, especially the bail net feeder I left on the ground last night.

Anyone caring for and responsible for any animal, has woke up wondering is that cat okay, better check the heater, did the trap get that dog...

So... I was worried about the netted slow feeder that was secured around a bail of Teff Hay.

All is good as I was told it would be.

Horses produce A LOT of acid and the ideal scenario is for them to be able to graze all day and night so their stomachs are not empty and all that acid left to cause ulcers which is common in Equine.

Today I plan to elevate the bail slow feeder, getting it off the ground and placing it under a cover as snow and rain are expected.

I have had horses for less than a year.. My days are long and I learn new things daily.

As I lean, I share in hope that someone out there with a horse or donkey can benefit from learning something useful information wise.

For now, thank you for following, I am headed to the main house for coffee!!

Long Long Days at the Sanctuary. People ask, hey when does your day start Kristie?? Well.... Let's say pretty darn early and I'm having lunch at 9am.. LOL.

I know folks love the horses and donkeys but I want to have the videos be substantive offering hopefully useful information to viewers.

The days of tossing hay are over as it's eaten to fast and I need it to last all night due to very low temperatures..

Olsens versus Cal Ranch... Cal Ranch was HALF the cost for the same slow feeders for that item, Cal Ranch gets my money.

Thank you everyone for your support over this past year it means alot to me..and to the animals. I never feel alone with ALL of you.. or them.

God has blessed me and the Sanctuaries beyond blessing. Damn.. Can I love life any more than I do..? No.

For now Hank and Sass, Charlie and Buck say Happy Holidays from Jem's Legacy 🙏‼️

With the rain and clouds gone the temps are expected to plumit.

Not to worry, I picked up these slow feeders and stuffed with Alfalfa and Orchard Hay and a few carrots are hidden in there somewhere.

This should help the donkeys and horses slow graze overnight and keep them warm.

I also got chain for the existing feeders because the rope doesn't hold. So.. Learning everyday new tricks to make everyone's life a little easier.

FYI, the slow feeders were purchased at Olsens and fit 4 flakes.

Bad News Bears are all jacketed up and ready for the cold again.
