Morning #7

Thank you everyone for your support and prayers for the speedy recovery of Balto. I believe they are working!

Balto has completed his anti- inflammatories, has just 1 antibiotic left and is now going outside regularly for short very easy walks. He has a doctors appointment December 5th for follow-up.

Animals are so resilient. They truly are.
It's hard to believe it's just been a week and this little guy is just full of life, energy, curiosity and drive.

Arguably after having one of the worst days imaginable for anyone, getting struck by a car, undergoing emergency surgery, loss of a limb, getting castrated then surrendered by family and waking up in a strange place with strange faces.. Goodness.

Indeed you are not in Kansas anymore little doggy.. No... That tornado of chaos landed you someplace far better!!!

Isn't that just how it seems at times? Chaos, suffering, trials and tribulations. It seems so daunting while in the proverbial storm, but once through it, your glad for the experience and the direction the storm blew ya. Well, that's how I feel anyway and believe me, life hasn't always been rainbows and butterflies.

For now, thank you and keep the good vibes coming 🙏

Meet Maple. Today is her 1 year anniversary coming to Team Charity Case.

1 year ago, we received a call from a man who explained and described a horrible situation involving a homeless man living in a garage bay and he had a cat. The cat smelled like stale ci******es, her fur matted and greesy and she had lost the use of her hind legs.

The good samaritain who called, got the homeless man (homeless as a result of a divorce situation), to surrender the cat.

Once we got the cat we brought her straight to Urgent Pet Prescott where they diagnosed her with diabetes. Her blood sugar was over 600. Extremely high blood surgar can be life threatening and lead to serious health issues like the neuropathy of her hind legs.

Had the cat not been treated we were told she would have been found dead.

Team Charity Case renamed the cat Maple because she's so damn sweet. Maybe why the high blood sugar 🤔

Eitherway, the doctors shaved her and we got her insulin.

For the last year Maple has received 2 injections a day and has made a full recovery including regaining the use of her hind legs.

The diagnoses of diabetes in a pet is NOT the end of the world. Like humans, it's very treatable.

In addition to her twice a day insulin injections, Maple is not allowed to free feed and she has been on a low carb dry food diet.

We are so blessed to have been chosen to care for Maple. We have NEVER had to care for a diabetic cat or dog and had zero experience. It was so easy to learn. She is so easy to care for. She is so happy and loves having the use of her legs back. (Took 3 months to regain use).

Like humans who get on insulin, make dietary changes and has regular exercise, the prognosis is very good for diabetes.

Happy Anniversary Maple!!!

Many of you know "Team" Charity Case was created over 23 years ago by a bunch of rough and tumble mountain bikers.

To this day, we hold true to our orgins. Approaching 2025 we have mountain bikers registered in various 24hr endurance events, ironman competitions and especially in the MBAA series. (Mountain Bike Association of Arizona).

We are excited to be alongside PIVOT Bikes as a 2025 Sponsor.

is not only a mountain bike race series but a nonprofit doing a lot of good out there!! MBAA is a nonprofit organization engaged in charitable services focused on trail maintenance, construction and preservation among other things. MBAA also supports organizations who have a core focus on getting Youth into cycling and all that goes along with that!!

Tomorrow is December. As 2024 winds down Team Charity Case is ramping up for an AMAZING 2025!

We cannot provide updates for just one lucky dog...

For inquiring minds, Faith is doing amazing. After being saved from a ditch that was bulldozed over the next day. (THANK YOU) Team Charity Case made the trek to NM to bring her to AZ where she is receiving love, care, lots of yummy treats and attention.

Faith is about 20 pounds now!! Potty trained, loves kitty cats, loves running in the Autumn Leaves and is afraid of Javalina.. But that's okay..

We will share more updates on Faith as she grows up into a beautiful Cattledog Husky all around trooper and protector of cat toys 🤔

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day yesterday. We continue to work very closely with Balto and are sharing the video of his first time going outside since the accident which resulted among other things the loss of his rear leg.

General update is he is doing amazing and it's time to get him moving. Even if just a little. He is still shakey and wobbly so be purchased a sling to help support his body as we take him on very short exercise walks.

Balto has finished his anti-inflamatory medications and is still on antibiotics and pain meds. (Very light).

Time, Love and Commitment goes a long way. We are doing nothing that anyone else couldn't be doing.

If you have a pet, (family member) don't give up on them. They need us more than ever during sickness and injury. Their love in unconditional and ours should be as well. 🙏

Update on Balto. First off, thank you everyone for the well wishes.

Balto made it through his 2nd night. 1st night in the ER and second night with Team Charity Case.

Intense story with happy happy moments.

Balto is scheduled to meet his new primary doctor in Phoenix, Dr Stevens at Sunburst Animal Hospital where his staples will be removed and he will receive a very thorough examination.

Balto is eating and drinking well and even standing up on his own.

Balto is sharing a beautiful space with his own personal fireplace and housemate Molly (12 year old cat) who has been keeping close watch on him and any food he doesn't eat..

We feel very confident that Balto is going to be just fine. He is currently on pain medication, anti inflammatories and antibiotics.

A contractor has been notified and will hopefully be constructing a small enclosure for Baltos rehabilitation.

We plan to do an Embark DNA test to better learn more about Balto. 🙏

Excited to see those results and will share with everyone!

If you think your last 24hrs was rough, I'm thinking this little guy has you beat.

As this story continues to unfold, the gist is Team Charity Case got a call last night about a dog who was hit by a car. The injuries significant requiring surgery and amputation of a hind leg.

Facing medical expenses that spanned into the thousands, the little guy was surrendered.

The ER called Team Charity Case asking if we could help. How can we say no and of course paid whatever the medical bills were to help this poor soul.

Totally unexpected but miracles always are, in my opinion. I personally believe God had other plans for this survivor.

Not much is known about "Balto" (his new name) just that he was a stray at one point and with former humans for 8 months before being surrendered. Everyone caring for him says he is super sweet and gentle. Praying for that!!

Heading to pick him up now. Doctor at the ER said, he's clear to go and begin the road to recovery and rehabilitation.

Dogs and cats do really really well with 3 legs. We will do everything we can to see this little guy has boots on ground and is running toward a bright and rewarding future 🙏

Thank you everyone for your well wishes and for reaching out to Team Charity Case and saving this dogs life! 💥👊

It is so very important to let everyone know, that animals do just fine with 3 legs.

We have 2 kitties with just 3 legs and they will whoop anyone's ass let me tell you. Never give up on your family members and yes, dogs and cats are family 🙏

Embark just came in!!

Little Faith is almost 78% Australian Cattle dog! See image for the Emabark results.

No question her curled tail is the Husky and calm gentle nature is the Golden. Rounded nose and eyes are from the Pit bull.. (in my opinion.)

She loves cats that's all I care about 🤷‍♀️

Update on Faith, the miracle puppy from New Mexico. Thank you for saving Faith and her siblings.

Team Charity Case is wildly excited to learn the Embark results and will share immediately with all those offering their best guess!! Cattledog Terrier??

Faith and her littermates were dumped into a ditch on a reservation in New Mexico back in August.

found and saved each and everyone of them. The very next day the ditch was bulldozed over. They would have all been buried alive and killed.

Unthinkable evil for anyone to do such a thing that was met with unmeasurable love and compassion that prevailed and resulted in all lives saved and Faith is one of them. 🙏

Ironman Arizona is no small feat—a grueling 2.4-mile swim, followed by a 112-mile bike ride, and finishing with a full 26.2-mile marathon. This year marked the 20th anniversary of the event, and despite signing up just three weeks before race day and coming in undertrained, Jarrett was determined to reach the finish line.

The water was a brisk 61°F, and the bike course was challenging with wind in his face and cool temperatures as the day turned to night. What kept Jarrett going was his unwavering focus on crossing that finish line, no matter what.

One thing that really stood out this race was the bold orange Team Charity Case jersey he wore. It made him easy to spot from the start—so much so that someone even picked him out of the swimmers and snapped a photo! Throughout the day, Jarrett got a lot of comments about his jersey, and it was great to use the opportunity to share the work that TCC does. Jarrett said that people he passed on the bike course remembered him, and when they saw him again on the run, they’d comment on the kit, which helped him spread the word about the amazing work we do!

Words of an Ironman-
It wasn’t just about the race for me—it was about representing something bigger. And, despite being undertrained, I proved to myself that dedication, even in the face of challenge, can get you to the finish line.
