Happy national community cat day (ok, it's a day late, but we're here now)! Here's an article with useful information about community cats, in case there's a few that hang out around you that you want to help!

https://cattime.com/national-day/1964-national-feral-cat-day

October 16th is National Feral Cat Day. Whether you call them stray felines, outdoor cats, or community kitties, one thing is for sure -- feral cats are still one of the most misunderstood animal groups in the United States. Here's what you should know.

Thank you to Village Veterinary Clinic for having us in today for a lunch and learn! Medical and behavioral people working together is the key to increasing feline welfare in this city, and you all had such great questions!

Hope to have a strong relationship with you for years to come 😻😻

Scratching posts are good for your cat and your furniture 😉

Cat scratching is a normal behavior to keep nails well-groomed, remove the old nail sheaths, and expose the new nail growth inside.

If you have even a vague thought that your cat might be experiencing pain, or is acting differently, call your vet! Cats experiencing pain can start displaying worrying behavior issues like inappropriate elimination, excessive vocalization, or aggression, to name a few.

September is Animal Pain Awareness Month. Cats suffer from pain just like we do. Although, the signs are not always obvious. Become familiar with the signs of chronic and acute cat pain.

Moon loves to go on stroller rides so much, he puts himself in his stroller!

Giving him enrichment keeps him from finding his own activities to engage in, like pouncing on the dog or nibbling toes (not his own).

Strollers are a safe way to get your cat some exposure to the out door world, which is so full of smells and sounds and sights that are interesting!

Moon says the best way for a cat to eat is to encourage natural predatory behaviors and stimulate the brain while they eat! This fun toy by Catit gets 5 out of 5 toe beans of approval from Moon!

Want to get a little more enrichment in your cat's life and not sure where to start? Try going to Food Puzzles for Cats for some inspo!

This loaf of contentment is Mimic. Notice how her paws are tucked under her, making those murder mittens slightly harder to whip out. Now that's what I call a happy feline!

Ever wonder if your cat is happy? Of course we all know about a cat purring (which can be misleading, fyi, I'll talk about that some other time) but here, I present to you a happy cat's happily vibrating tail. If you're ever standing around watching your cat rub their face and body against walls or your legs, look at the tail, and post a video of their good vibrations!

Thank you, Phoenix, for the beautiful tail dancing!

To pet the floof, or not to pet the floof?

Just because you can see it, doesn't mean it's an open invitation to rub a cat's tummy.

Pro tip: try approaching the cat for a head scratch first. If they pull away, respect the signal, otherwise keep petting and see what they like!

This little adoptable love bug, daffodil, gave my home made tuna biscuits a mixed review. Her assessment: tasty, but we prefer petting.

If your cat is not food motivated, perhaps you just haven't found the right treat? Get creative and try new recipes, you never know what they'll end up loving!

And a bonus clip of adoptable Tabitha playing with a silvervine stick, because it's too cute not to post.

I get asked about cat claws a lot, so for any of you who are not familiar with my stance on this - I am unequivocally opposed to declawing. In my opinion, it is barbaric, cruel, and unnecessary.

Check out my friends at The Paw Project if you'd like to learn more about this, and check out my youtube videos on how to provide your cats with different surfaces for scratching. Here’s one to start you off:
