Shoutout to the awesome self wash station we used! It was so easy, they provide everything you can think of. Free shampoo, conditioner, brush, towel, and you get to use the fancy dog dryer!

Chillin’ by the Christmas Tree

Now that school is winding down, I’m able to spend some more one on one time with my girl! I’ve been working on training with her A LOT as we get closer to her taking her CGC test next summer. We’re excited to take some more steps closer to becoming a therapy dog 🥳

Looking into the new week got me like...

How was your week? Dixie worked on a lot of her training, even learning how to heel without a leash on! It’s still a work in progress but I love watching her figure out new commands and getting excited when she does them correctly. Looking forward to seeing what all she learns in the next week!

Happy ! As part of my “College Tour” I got to go visit the best dining hall on campus, SBISA! (Pronounced s-beez-uh) I wasn’t able to go in but I got to see everyone going in and out. Also in the back is the official “Welcome to Aggieland” water tower!

Last night Dixie showed off a new “talent”. I had her up past her bedtime and I was standing by the kitchen counter and out of nowhere she popped up and was standing on the counter. I was mainly in shock at how she ended up there but I immediately scooped her up and tried to correct it. Hopefully this isn’t a new skill she wants to show off, otherwise my food might not be safe!

Happy Monday!! It’s the start of a new week which means today is day to start things off on a good note.

Yesterday we started a new training idea, called the relaxation protocol. It’s supposed to help dogs learn how to sit, stay, and not be as reactive to distractions and focus on you. Today marks Day 2 and I’m excited to see the results over the next two weeks!

Fun story: As soon as I finished taking this picture, Dixie shot off across the plaza after a squirrel. Reason #1 I leave the leash on her is for instances like these... 🐿

Introducing the new series: Dixie takes on college!

It was so much fun getting to the walk Dixie around my schools campus. It was such a pretty day, the leaves were turning colors, sunset cast a golden shadow over the campus, and there was a nice breeze that followed us around. Despite a few hiccups (also known as “squirrel spottings”) she did really great. I’m looking forward to sharing the rest of these pictures!

I heard you like bad girls... I totally didn’t see that sign in the background 🤪

Dixie and I have been working on her heel. It’s still in the beginning stages but since starting to work on a prong collar she has done a 180. The communication between us has improved, she isn’t gagging or choking like she did on her martingale, and I hardly have to correct her. We’ve already been able to walk on a loose leash with her by my side.

I’m hoping to have some more videos up of our training so you can see the improvident!

It’s ok to have bad training days. Sometimes Dixie just doesn’t want to listen and sometimes Mom has no patience. At the end of the day, just remember how much progress you’ve made from where you started versus where you are now.

Today I went on a hike around Lick Creek Park, saw some squirrels and a few birds! My mom didn’t let me chase them though 😒....

Today I decided to take Dixie on an actual nature walk. The trail we went on was pretty empty which was nice so we could work on distractions while in a new environment. There were DEFINITELY lots of new smells which might have been overwhelming, but overall it was a lot of fun! We stopped on the way out to pose with the flowers and “smell the roses”.

Happy Halloween from me & my dog mate Ella! We both went as sharks this year, don’t mess with us or you’ll be missing a finger 👻🦈

Dixie is such a land shark. Since her teething has tapered off, her mouthing has gotten a lot better! Still lots of room for improvement but I’m proud of her so far. Having lots of hard rubber toys around helps to give her an outlet and teach her it’s okay to chew on appropriate toys.

What are your dogs (read: land sharks) favorite toys?
