I was waiting at the animal shelter today to pick up a cat.

I watched two people come in and surrender their animals because they’re leaving for vacation tomorrow. The lady with the dog was turned away because they didn’t have space. 
 and it was clear that the adult cats would be euthanized as soon as those people walked out of the shelter because they are afraid of strangers.

What is wrong with people.

This is Rufus, what breed do you think this handsome boy is? It's a mystery but all I know is that he's one cute doggie that really needs a forever home. He's a 3-4 year old dog, the perfect age. He's just a normal ol'dog looking for a home. Would love a walk a couple times a week, but honestly at his age, he would do fine with just backyard play time too and a walk every once in a while. He loves, loves, loves to cuddle under blankets, it's the cutest thing ever. He's been in a foster home forever, not quite sure why he's been over looked, but he really needs a savior to come to his rescue and adopt him. He deserves to have a home of his own. I am so tired of trapping raccoons but look at this pic- must have been a baby that walked in the trap and mama is trying to figure out how to get it out. The whole family is here. Luckily I was very close so he was out soon

I am so sick of people constantly offering to help, but never being available when I need the help, and I mean NEVER. Please don't offer if you can't actually help. There are two types of people, those that offer to help and never can and those that never offer because they know they never can.

I am desperately looking for feral cat feeders at Colfax and Moline. This area is over ridden with starving cats and kittens. I am working to TNR them, but they are so unhealthy and just.....sufferring.

Do you love cats and want to help, but don't have enough time to volunteer.

I have a need for a volunteer for 5 minutes a day one day a week (plus drive time).

I have a team of people that feed colonies of feral cats throughout the Denver Metro Area. I am looking for feeders one day a week for the following locations:

Colfax and Moline in Denver/Aurora
44th and Kipling in Wheatridge
53rd and Quebec in Commerce City

It truly amazes me when well educated people call me and say " I need help, I am feeding 20 feral cats in my backyard and they keep having babies, I don't know how this happened."

Really, are you really telling me you don't understand the birds and the bees. This is part of what's wrong with our society.

And now.....they are expecting ME to clean up their mess oh and...pay for it....of course.....

I am getting calls daily on these situations where people
Are seeing g baby kittens.

I physically cannot get to everyone which means kittens will either end up dead or if they survive, they will have a life outside which is not good.

I need help, if you love kittens, I need a “kitten
go getter” for when I get these calls, then I can add that area to the list to trap the adults. If you are interested in being a “kitten go getter” please pm me.

And… for the love of God, please spay and neuter.

This very feral
Boy is starting to feel better and feisty again after his dental and mats were shaved. With a good caretaker, feral cats can live long, healthy lives. There is no need to euthanize if they just need a dental.

After his recovery, he will be released to his colony.

A conversation yesterday:

Me: I saw you pull up and wanted to let you know that I found your dog. You weren't home, but all your doors were open and music was on, so I just put her inside

Guy: Thank you. Do you want her? If you know of a good home, I am looking for one for her

Me: Why?

Guy: I have just had her for so long and when I leave town for 3-4 days I have to try and find someone to come let her out, otherwise I just leave the door cracked so she can get outside

Me: How old is she?

Guy: She's 13, a papered Bloodhound

I won't continue because at this point I am fuming inside.
THIS is what is wrong with our world.

What I should have said was: I am looking for a home for my 13 year old child. I have had her for so long and she's a pain...want to trade.

Here's the conversation I had when releasing a feral cat today after her spay.

Me - "Thanks for letting me trap on your property. I caught one female, she was pregnant"

Girl - "Awwww.....what happens"

Me - "she was spayed so that we don't have any kittens born"

Girl - "oh nooooo"

Me - "Almost Every female that I trap from now until Dec is pregnant. I am happy to give you a litter if you want to foster"

Girl - "oh, I can't, my own cats would kill me"

I ended the conversation there to preserve the relationship, but my next question is....if you won't help foster, but you don't want me to spay pregnant females, then what would you like me to do to help the kittens that are born? I hate spaying pregnant females, but if people don't step up to foster and adopt, then I am not going to bring unwanted kittens in to this world to just end up euthanized at the shelter. Why would I allow kittens to be born, just to be euthanized.

When I went to check on barn cats I placed, some of the horses came to the front of their stalls to greet me. I know nothing about horses but that made me smile.
