Last week was crazy for Simba’s Pride. 3 dentals and an eye surgery on feral cats. Simba’s Pride exists so that we can raise money to do these types or surgeries. With good colony caretakers, feral cats can thrive and have a happy, long life with proper vet care. When you donate to Simba’s Pride, these are examples of where the funds go, in addition yo spay/nauter/vac and food for feral cats. Thank you all for helping us care for feral cats as they should be cared for. Corn and Keebler are pictured here.

Part of doing TNR work is taming kittens when they go in your traps. Here’s a cutie that went in last night.

Hey all, Lots of people out there recommended I try the behavior program at DFL for my feral kittens. Reluctantly, I did - here's the outcome. I promised to give an update about the kittens I took to Dumb Friends League to their behavior program. I ended up taking 4 kittens, they were all about the 3 month age, maybe a tad less. One kitten, they deemed adoptable right away, like on day 3 and they put it up for adoption and it got adopted. The other 3 they had for 4 weeks, then .they called and said "they didn't make the cut" come back and get them.
I figured several sessions with their behavior group meant they were feral, so since it had been 4 weeks already, when I picked up the first one, my intent was to run out to the colony and release her right away. Well.... in the car, she was meowing and was sitting at the front of the carrier - these are not feral traits so instead of releasing her, I brought her home and said I can keep her for a day to determine if she needs to be released or not. When i got her home, she was purring and playing like a normal kitten - I was not sending her back outside. When I told the director of ops at DFL that this kitten was adoptable, I asked why did you determine she wasn't. The notes said she bit down hard on a stick so they thought that was bad. Well....any behavior person should know the difference between agressive and play biting. She's a kitten and plays rough, which is why she needs a playmate.
Got a call a few days later, kitten didn't make the cut, come get it. He had a runny nose, I said..does he have .URI, she said, no, we wouldn't send a sick kitten to the street. Again...I brought the kittem home to make my own determination and he is amazing. He's a super great kitten and I am so glad I didn't send him back outside. Also, by the way...he does have a URI and is filled with worms.
Third kitten, I did end up releasing because they had supposedly done 17 behavior sessions with him and he was still pretty feral, so he went back (reluctantly). That was a week ago and the caretakers have not seen him since (sad).
Below are two videos of the kittens they said were feral and called me to pick up to return to the colonies.

Need help TNRing cats. I will pay for it, I just can't physically do it until November.

Here's the situation:

15 adults, 15 kittens, at least, living in a backyard, continue to breed, caaretaker doesn't have enough food to feed all the cats so they are starving. Should be an easy TNR situation, especially now since they are all starving and pregnant.

If anyone can help do the trapping and taking to the vet, I will pay for it. I can teach you if you are interested in learning. It's very rewarding.

Please PM or call me if you can help - 720-255-8812

I am super excited to announce the Simba's Pride website. It's still a work in progress, we only have one page so far. Thank you so much to Karen Richards for doing it all so that I can continue to focus on doing TNR with feral/community cats.

Check it out and please share -

I was waiting at the animal shelter today to pick up a cat.

I watched two people come in and surrender their animals because they’re leaving for vacation tomorrow. The lady with the dog was turned away because they didn’t have space.
and it was clear that the adult cats would be euthanized as soon as those people walked out of the shelter because they are afraid of strangers.

What is wrong with people.
