Here are 4 reasons why your cat sheds so much:

1️⃣ Allergies. Just like humans, kitty allergies to food, plants, or dust can cause skin irritation and excess shedding.

2️⃣ Thyroid issues. An overactive thyroid gland can cause hormonal changes leading to heavy shedding. A vet visit can diagnose this.

3️⃣ Ringworm. This fungal infection causes patches of fur loss and skin flakes. It's contagious to other pets & humans!

4️⃣ Anxiety or stress. Big changes, noisy environments, new pets can stress out cats. This stress can activate heavy seasonal-like shedding.

If your fur baby is suddenly leaving tufts of fur everywhere, schedule a vet appointment to get to the bottom of the issue.

Any other pet parents dealing with major cat shedding right now?! Let us know if you have any tips!

Cats communicate in a language beyond meows and purrs, and territorial marking is a fascinating aspect of their behavior deeply rooted in evolution. Let’s explore the significance of territorial marking in cats, examining its reasons and implications for both domestic and wild feline populations.

Evolutionary Roots:
Territorial marking evolved as a survival strategy for wild cats, crucial for setting boundaries, avoiding conflicts, and signaling reproductive readiness. This behavior showcases the adaptability and resourcefulness of the feline species.

Communication Through Scent:
Cats use scent glands in their paws to leave a message when they scratch surfaces, conveying nuanced details about identity, status, and territorial claims. This olfactory communication is a powerful means of sharing information with other cats in the vicinity.

Dominance and Hierarchy:
Territorial marking is linked to establishing dominance and social hierarchy, aiding cats in multi-cat households or outdoor colonies to assert their position and maintain a harmonious coexistence.

Stress Reduction and Comfort:
Beyond claiming space, cats engage in territorial marking for stress reduction, creating a familiar and comforting environment. The scent of their markings serves as a reassuring anchor in unfamiliar or stressful situations.

Addressing Territorial Marking:
In domestic settings, territorial marking can be challenging, especially when it involves furniture. Understanding this instinct is crucial for effective strategies, such as providing designated scratching posts and using synthetic pheromone products to redirect marking behaviors.

Territorial marking unveils insights into the social and survival dynamics of cats, whether in the wild or our homes. Embracing the language of territorial marking deepens our connection with these enigmatic creatures, creating spaces where their paws speak volumes. 🐾🐱

A cat's soothing purr is much more than just an expression of contentment - scientific research suggests those rumbling vibrations can also help promote pain relief, wound healing, and bone growth.

Studies have found feline purrs transmit sound frequencies between 25 to 150 Hertz. These low, rhythmic vibrations can physically stimulate cells in the body, increasing bone density, reducing inflammation, and speeding up healing at the cellular level.

It's believed the sound waves promote tissue regeneration, release calming endorphins, and stimulate the formation of new blood vessels needed for recuperation. Cats often purr near injuries or areas of disease, as if they intuit where vibrational therapy is needed most.

So when your purring tabby curls up beside you, that cozy kitty is actually using its natural therapeutic abilities to help your body heal. Those calming rumbles can stimulate your own natural healing processes.

Next time your cat purrs up close, appreciate that this beloved pet is working its magic to potentially help reduce your pain, speed your injury recovery, and improve your overall wellbeing. A purr a day may really help keep the doctor away!

Cats love scratching, and they have their top five favorite spots. Let's break it down in simple terms so you can understand your feline friend's artistic endeavors better.

1. Couches

Why do cats scratch the couch? It's like a spa day for them! The soft cushions are perfect for stretching and keeping their claws healthy. So, when you see them scratching, think of it as their way of saying, "I'm treating myself!"

2. Chairs

Chairs are like a canvas for your cat's signature move. They scratch the corners to mark their territory – it's their way of saying, "This chair is mine!" Don't worry; they're not trying to ruin your furniture; they just want to claim it as their own.

3. Curtains

Curtains turn into a stage for your cat's impromptu show. The soft fabric is like a tree in the wild – a natural scratching post. So, when your cat goes for the curtains, think of it as them channeling their wild side.

4. Carpets

Carpets become your cat's personal digging paradise. It's like their own desert island, where they can scratch horizontally and feel satisfied. It's a throwback to the days when cats scratched the ground in the wild.

5. Wood Furniture

Wood furniture corners and legs are the cat's stage for a claw-sharpening symphony. Before you panic, remember, it's not a rebellion. Cats just find the texture irresistible for claw maintenance. Introduce a scratching post to redirect their artistic inclinations.

So, there you have it – the cat's guide to scratching simplified! Embrace your feline friend's quirks, introduce a scratching post, and enjoy a happy cat and intact furniture.

10/11/2023

A cat's whiskers are not just cute, they're an essential part of their sensory system.

Whiskers help cats judge distances and sense their surroundings. So cutting or trimming them can negatively impact your cat's spatial awareness and natural instincts.

Whiskers also contain sensitive nerve endings that send information to the brain. They help cats detect and avoid obstacles, even in the dark. They also aid balance. So removing whiskers could make cats clumsier.

PLEASE don't cut your cat's whiskers! They are not just fur, but important sense organs. Whiskers usually fall out and regrow on their own.

If you notice overgrown or damaged whiskers, see your vet. But avoid trimming them yourself.
